New MP3 owner need new engine?

Hello all I just bought a Blue 2001. The car handles sweet. But I had some lower engine noise show up about 2 weeks after i bought the car. So i took it in to have it looked at. Turns out Rod bearing 4 has been chewing away at the crank and the rod. A jasper rebuild is going to run me 3200 for a new motor. My question is what are my other options. I know with honda's you can order motors on line with 30,000 or less. Is that possible for us? Can i possibly buy a built motor for cheaper??? im not sure what to do but i do know i don't wanna drop 4000 dollars in to having a new motor installed

LS1...kidding. Seems to be the default answer to almost any car here lately. Why not just ahead and get the MSP motor? Maybe there is somebody on the site parting one out. Any local or distant junkyards have one laying around?

looking for a replacement engine for my mp3 also any ideas on what motor would work I had a couple people say that it had to be from a manual car no automatic engine

Automatic would work, but needs a little bit of work. I think the starter and rear mount are different.

Both of you guys should check car-part.com and see if there are any junk yards nearby with good low-mileage used engines.

engine

you can use a 2001-2003 626 motor standard or automatic i recomend automatic you know for sure it has not be over reved or hot doged to much.
this is the cheapest way to go but you need to know how to set timming to do this swap if you cant just by the engine the car comes with any p5 engine will do cost 1200-1500 626 engine around 650 if you want to save money pm me i will help you with the swap i have already done it saved me around 700 but with alot of work.

engine

yes the 626 motor works with the mp5 tranny it is the same block the difference is all the parts that go onto it. It will work with either auto or manual trans.
