Hello everyone.

My name is Tyler...I live in mid-Michigan. I've had a lot of cars, and I'm currently with an SVT Focus. That was a major downgrade from my previous car, a 2006 GTO, but a necessary one (at the time). Now, I'm looking at getting back into a nice, quicker car that won't break the bank account, and I'm between a MS3 and a turbo Cobalt SS. I'm really leaning towards a white MS3, though...just seems like the more practical/better pieced together vehicle. I'm going to test drive one tomorrow.

Anyway, just introducing myself. If I end up getting an MS3 here sometime in the future I'm sure I'll become more active. I'm already an active member on a number of boards, including TCL. If I end up just sticking with what I have or getting something completely different, I'll just fade away like the loser I would be (loser)

Here's a quick picture of my current car:

I did have one quick question...what kind of ECU upgrades are out there that eliminate the torque management/boost cut in first and second gear...are there any plug and play devices, or is a full tune required?

Been searching around a bit more, but still can't find any info on what is required to permanently remove the boost cut in first and second...I'm sure it's been done, but I didn't know if there is a mail-in tune available for these cars or if you have to have it dyno-tuned by someone to get rid of it. I think that would get very annoying very quickly.

That Focus is hot! Not fast enough for you? I guess not compared to a speed3. Still, I have a soft spot for the SVT Focus.

Thanks! Yeah, I'm looking for a bit of an upgrade that I can still drive every day without worries. I test drove the Cobalt SS Turbo yesterday, and it was nice...but the interior feels a bit cheap, and I really like the hatchback style of cars for its functionality.

And after searching around a bit I found the Cobb Tuning Access Port or something like that...that removes the boost cut in first and second, correct (or it has the ability to) along with a bunch of other things?

pretty cool, your voiding your warranty BEFORE you buy the car!! for allaroundness, the MS3 is hard to beat. i even go camping in mine and sleep in the back. sometimes i drive it so slow my passengers think im sleeping in the front. lol

Welcome to the group! Yep, if you want cheap, the General can accomodate you. I had my fill of him long ago. Back-to-back POSs will do that to you. IMO, the Cobb AP isn't worth nearly what it costs. Tiny power increase for, what, $700? No, thanks. This is not a knock on Cobb -- my baby has a SRI and RSB, and they were worth every penny.

Test drove an MS3 tonight and fell in love...looks like it'll be a month or so before I get mine...White all the way! I can't believe how much better the MS3 is compared to the Cobalt...quality, feel, fit and finish...it's all better.

Come meet the MI Mazda guys!

I had an 05 GTO, lemon-law, end of story. Got a 07 TBSS, loved it but hated having a heavy gas guzzling SUV. Got the MS3, absolutely love it to death and won't ever turn back. I loved it so much, my gf got a CX-7.

You have to get it!!!

Oh and yes, fit finish and quality is all amazing. A MS3 GT loaded is 10x better than the Cobalt.

You won't regret it...

If I wasn't buried in my P5 I'd be modding an MS3 right now. But mine's all paid for and I love her too much!

Good luck and welcome to the forum!

Going after work today to hand over the deposit/down payment for a white MS3 sport!

Oh boy... there goes the neighborhood. ;) (Hi Tyler!)

I just sold my DD Silverado the other day so I'm thinking about picking up a 3 for a commuter car/winter beater sometime before the snow flies.

haha...I already have the first few mods planned...might even order them before I take delivery on the car so they come at the same time the car does LOL

thinking a boost gauge, bypass valve, COBB SRI, and testpipe. I can do all that without a tune, correct? Would that free up any power (the SRI and the testpipe)?
