new lights, old lights side by side

Like the old style...but with the clear blinker.

Black housing would look good from far. Reminds me of the ugly plastic around the new Xterra lights...totally ugly

definitely the old ones!!! And, AFAIK, the blinkers are all clear, it's just the bulb that's amber. I painted my bulbs silver (they still illuminate amber) so that the housing would appear to be clear. Worked great.

actually i like the new one...
people spend money to make their headlight have those blacken effect..and even i wanna do that..=P

I think it looks good on certain colors. Not on the laser blue. Maybe on the yellow or white. Definately on the black.

All I can say is that I'm glad I have a 2002! Call me old fashioned, but I don't get this stuff with black inside the headlights. Anything inside a headlight should be a mirror finish shiny chrome!

I agree completely. When i first saw the examples on the mazda website where you can choose your color the black looked freaking awesome, but up close... eh.. i like the 2002 shinyness

I for one have a black mica P5 and think that the blacked out lights would look freaking awesome on my car, but agree that on the blue the black lights look out of place.

HATERS!!! :D

i have a Laser Blue P5 and i think the headlights look great...a lot more aggressive...

and no one ever complained about the blackened headlights on the MP3s even though they were Laser Blue :p

Yeah but it was a different assembly and I never really saw them side by side. It doesn't look bad, I just think the chrome would look better on the blue.

The blackened finish up close looks like cheap plastic. Almost reminds me of brand new Lego brick taken from the package. I like the chrome, especially with a blue/hyper white bulb installed as you can see the reflection of the blue tint in the chrome when the lights are off - looks tight to me.

Now that I think of it....Would these new blackened assemblies have the same reflective effect? Or would they provide a different / dimmer headlight effect?

the mp3 headlights are gray, not black.

Completely baffled

I was at the local dealer's today getting his first shot at a price on a P5 and there are 6 '03 P5s on the lot. These are new deliveries this week and none of them have the blacked out headlight reflectors. All are full chrome like the '02s. ????? Jim

Are you sure they were '03's? Here in NY they haven't arrived yet.

Oh yeah

At least the MSRP stickers said they were all 2003 models. I didn't check VIN numbers, but none of them were vehicles I was interested in buying.

I for one would definately like to get my hands on the blacked out P5 headlamps. They would look tight in a Yellow MP3.

hmmm...i checked the mazda sites in canada and the US and i cannot find much on the 2003 Protege5. can someone post a picture of a white 2003? thanks!!! you guys think it will look good on a white protege5?

I love the 2002 Headlights. They look very agressive, the black ones on the other hand don't seem to look right on the MP5, but i can't give my final verdict until my local dealership gets them in stock, because the minute they get the 2003's in stock, i'll be there checking them out ;)
