RWD or GTFO... AWD is ok too but only in certian situations
AWD is cheating haha
and dont get me wrong I am not down talking the rx8 I would love to have one.. but to me it does NOT have the "pedigree" that the rx7 does and it is not a "sports car" in the since of the term
As for the RX-8, I have to agree, though a sporty car, it is NOT a "sports" car... nor did mazda intend for it to be. If it was, theres no way it would have the door setup it has.
IMO the RX-8 is more sports car then the 1st or 2nd gen 7 ever was.
Let me start off by saying I'm in no way a professional driver or paid driver of any kind... By saying that what I'm about to say is my experienced over 20+ years of owning and driving various rotaries and varies sports cars...
regarding comparison of RX8 vs 1st gen RX7.. I've owned and have driven 3 other 1st gens (including modified suspension) and stock RX8 handles and drives FAR better. I currently own 2 FDs and have modified the suspension on my FDs with various set up and I have to say, stock 8 handles definitely better than stock FD and some set ups I had before..
Power on the 8 is not comparison to some modified 7s.. But conversation regarding handling.. There are few that can match the handling of the 8.
If you don't agree, please go drive one.. and look underneath the car. The rear suspension design is far better than of the FD.. And clear why it drives so much better..
I agree that stock for stock, when comparing braking and handling, the FE beats the FB,FC,and FD! Power to weight ratio, that is a different story...(cryhard)
Cant believe I missed this..
Sir you are 100% wrong.. The rx7 was more of a sports car in the 80's then the rx8 is now adays..
drive an rx7 next to an rx8 (with equal power) and u will see first hand how much better a 1st or 2nd gen rx7 is then the rx8..
and another thing.. not sure how old u are.. but if u know ANYTHING about 80's cars.. u would know the RX7 is a sports car.. it handled like on rails.. BETTER then the 8 matter a fact.
But we need to register before reading that post![]()
TOKYO -- The next-generation rotary engine from Mazda Motor Corp. isn't ready. The engine, unveiled at the 2007 Tokyo show under the code name 16X, was planned as the powerplant for the next-generation RX-8 sports car to be launched in 2012 or so.
Seita Kanai, head of Mazda r&d, said the engine does not meet the performance and fuel economy guidelines the automaker requires for a production model. Work continues to cut the rotary's fuel consumption.
The code name refers to the increase in the current engine's displacement, from 1.3 liters to 1.6 liters.
Kanai declined to say whether it's back to the drawing board for the 16X. "The 16X is more a profile of a rotary still in our concept stage," he said. "It needs more evolution."
