new in dash for the 3's

Is it just me or did the price just went up from $449 to $489? Also does the one from AutoDVDGPS retain trip computer control? Can Anyone confirm this? If it does im ill get it within the next couple of weeks too.

forget it. im just getting the Kanatechs Piano black kit and a pioneer z1/z2 or kenwood double din and calling it a day.

not spending that type of money on something unknown

that unit does look good but im wanting to know how good the resolution is in person

I have the Kenwood excelon DNX8120 and I love it!

I just dont like the look of aftermarket units...id have to get a custom kit and i think thats big money...and not to mention the loss of the trip computer, i really REALLY want to keep it, the miles remaining is mighty useful.

The only thing preventing this from being perfect for me is the fact the plastic is matte colored instead of having a piano black option. Not to mention, it's tough to consider paying $1000 for CarAdvanced when that other brand is selling it for under $500. It's gotta be a cheap ass screen..

The resolution on caradvanced's most expensive unit is:
6.5" DIGITAL Touch Screen
Digital Screen 800x480 pixels

The cheap one from autodvdgps is:
7" 16:9 with a resolution of 1440x234
http://www.autodvdgps.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=55&products_id=313

So actually the cheap one is BIGGER and has better resolution, plus its widescreen.

Technically, i'd rather have the 800x480p screen versus the 1440x234. The cheaper one has a wider screen with less lines in one of the axis. Atleast thats how i'm interpreting it.

But man..seriously why would it be so cheap..I wonder how long the thing will even last.

Actually...I think they made a mistake on their website...how the hell can you have a 1440 by 234 that does not make sense...does it? Sounds way too disproportionate.

Yeah it didn't make sense at all. Either it's gotta be less, like 400x200 or something like that. Either that, or it's an interlaced screen, which means I don't want that for SURE.

This is a commonly quoted resolution, which is misleading. It is really 480 x 234, which is pretty typical for a lot of these 7" screens. The reason they list it as 1440 is because each of the red, blue, and green pixels is counted in the lateral resolution (480 x 3 = 1440).

Hey guys, keep an eye on the electronics section on the 'other' forum. Dabears2k is in the process of obtaining this unit.

There is a youtube video of a near identical unit labeled 'DSS' which looks pretty impressive, and even retains the trip computer function. I don't know how it would be possible, but Dabears2k thinks that he may be able to get it for $650.

how bad could the picture quality go from 800x400 to 400x200 on such a small screen...? Just wondering if anyone could get a comparison shot.

Thats a lot of resolution to be had. You're doubling the screen quality.

My Blackberry 8330 has a 320 x 240 resolution screen. Nice, but leaves something to be desired. The Blackberry Bold (what i'd love to have) has a 480 x 320 resolution screen and it's unbelievable how much better it looks on that same sized screen.
