new in dash for the 3's

The unit comes with this option. I can change the time clock.

Do you live in the states??

Does this unit have any voice guidence?

Can you listen to music and run the navi at the same time?
Was it hard to find the compatible SD card?

Where does the line come from to plug in an ipod/usb?
Is there an sd card slot in the front of the unit or is it in the rear of the unit, and if the sd card slot is in the back, do you have to pull the unit right out to get the sd card in?

Yes, close to Waycross GA.
i haven't purchased the map yet, because i have too much work, the cable for the ipod and USB comes from the back, the SD Card slot is on the front, where it says card.

i couldn't wait for a GB so i ordered the screen from car advanced..(cool)

Here are some pictures at night.
It looks like if mazda made it for our cars. the best think is that I keep my small LCD working.
I can change the screen menu of orange or blue. Includes cables for ipod so I can connect my ipod and hear music and it can be charging also.
there is rear camera option but i haven't installed it yet, neither the tv receiver, there is a usb connector so i can conect mp3 players or maybe a card reader on it.

Just curious... looks like this unit isn't an exact match for either the new (piano black) or old (grey) interior. Since it's tough to tell from the pics... how well does it match up with yours?

it match 98% of the interior dash. The flash doenst help too much.
I'll take some pictures in the day. you'll see it better.
I dont know what is the piano black.

Is there a flip up molding that can house a portable GPS?
I'll take advice, ideas, website addresses, etc.

Like skylar2ups said, there is the axelatuning option. They said that they are willing to sell it without the portable unit for a cheaper price...it is still quite expensive though.

Another option is this: http://japanparts.com/db/partslist.php?dealer=6&car=95&middlesmall=2:13&maker=8&volkey=143-110-003
A number of people did this option a while back, and most ended up installing the CoolNavi in it.

holy shnikes man... that one's $330ish (who knows what shipping would be) so...

if you've got a nav with a sensitive enough antenna (and don't mind the location) do what I did and mount it down by the ash tray. Assuming you don't smoke (and you shouldn't damnit!) that thing's nothing more than a storage bin... so it won't be missed. the location of the outlet (and even the aux jack in the console if you wanna hook it up to play through your speakers) makes for a pretty easy and slick looking install.

I've got a Garmin 770 and it works fine down there. The fact that it's located so low really isn't as big of a deal as you might think since these things act merely as guide. I mean, are you gonna stare at the damn screen the whole time? of course not!

So I say save your $300+ on these replacement pop up dash kits (something tells me they'd rattle like crazy) and do what I did.

I'll try to get some pics later

Have there been any updates on this UNIT? i cant believe this thread discapeared LOL

This unit looks amazing and has a lot of potential. Considering the best dash kit for our car is like 300-400 dollars and this one keeps the LCD...the CLOCK...displays info and fits perfect with steering controls... even if it took some fiddling plug and play harnesses ahhh my dream lol. Navi isnt even that big of a deal but im sure buying the SD card with the maps isnt so expensive...

ok rant done... any updates?

I had asked CarAdvanced if they would consider improving the resolution of the screen and they promptly said "No". I'm not impressed with the quality of the screen, it's not even 480i and it's NTSC. If it had a tv tuner, it'd be extinct as of February 17th 09!

Yeah, it's motorized and looks stock. But the res has to be higher for me to spend that kind of cashola on it.

You do realized that there are like 2 or 3 in dash screen with resolution this high. All the pop up screens for the mazda are 480x237 or whatever it is. All the kenwood/eclipse/(most the pioneers) including the almighty avic d3 are that same resolution.

The only units that have a higher resolution i believe are a few alipine units and i think the new pioneers but thats it. other than that... your out of look and looking for the wrong thing. There are a few pop ups that you can custom setup with a different screen but standard the resolution isnt that high.

PS.... who watches TV? LOL wtf... USB and AVI capable.... dvd slot... mp3 capable... who needs the radio...or over the air television.... its calll DVD RIPPING or for you people that already have the movies and dont know how to rip them TORRENTS LOL. ;-)

My friend uses his tv all the time, we'll leave basketball games early and watch it on his tv on the way home. Won't work as of Feb 09 though lol.

I know that the res is low, but still, it's a lot to spend (I get a discount on car audio, I could get a D3 for $550, why spend the extra just to get it motorized?)

That looks great!!! I wonder how hard it would be to paint that to match the piano black interior?

I watched the video and it shows that the AUX input is either AUX or iPod depending on what's hooked up. I wonder if you can use the iPod AND a different AUX source at the same time.

I love these units, but I have so many questions about them. I would want the bluetooth to be able to receive incoming calls on my phone while using NAV or listening to music. I would want the steering wheel controls to "just work" magically without having to program them like I had to with my Pioneer.
