new here

So I'm new here. I bought my wife a brand new 2007 5 a while back and haven't had to do anything but change the oil. So far so good. Tires need to be replaced and it's only got 27k miles on the odometer. I was surprised that a brand new small car could wear out tires so fast (and unevenly) but I read on here that's a common problem. That sucks because that would be my only real complaint so far.

Anyhow, I got on this site looking for a factory workshop manual download. Anyone know of a link? I do all the work on my civic as well and those manuals are readily available online. Was wondering if the mazda ones are also. Anyone know about this?

Here's a real stupid question: what's the warranty on the 5's. It hasn't been to a dealership since the day I bought it so I've forgotten what the warranty was. I read all kinds of problems on this forum that have me worried now. It's been three years and one month since purchase so I think I might be SOL.

thanks for the link.

I'm in the USA for warranty.

I was looking through the FWM for the first time. I've had to do nothing but change the oil so far but I was looking at some common maintenance items and came across one and let's say I almost shat myself.....

POSITIVE CRANKCASE VENTILATION (PCV) VALVE INSPECTION [L8, LF]
DPE011613890W01
1. Remove the intake manifold.
2. Remove the PCV valve.

WTF????? Are you serious, remove the intake manifold to remove the PCV valve. Holy s***. Hope this isn't a sign of things to come with this my first Mazda.

Of course, keeping your oil changed regularly keeps the PCV valve clean. So maybe the PCV valve gets changed 2X in the vehicle's lifetime. Like a water pump, so no sweat.

eh, not sure I agree there. I clean the PCV valve on my civic about every two years (~25k) and it needs it every time. It was clogged open once (plunger couldn't return and seal) when I let it run for about 70k miles. The average oil change interval over the 200k miles I've owned the car (bought it new in 96) is 3100 miles so you can't blame old oil. A PCV valve is basic maintenance and removing an intake manifold to do it is a complete joke.

I used to change the PCV in my last car (Ford) every second oil change. It was a 30 second swap with a $5 part so I figured it's worth it considering what can happen if the PCV decides to seal shut. I've been looking into getting some very slim hands to try to change the valve without removing the intake but I need to do some more hunting first. Depending on exactly where the valve is (hence the need for searching) it might be easier to tackle the change from the bottom of the engine.

I have a mazda5 2006. I have never had to replace the PCV not even crack open a sparkplug to see how it looks. Back in my old buick I had to do it at least once a month..

I look at the exhaust pipe of my the MZ5. It is clean not even a sign of black sooth.

Anyway here is the PCV location, as per the drawing:

Actually just realized the manual I had is the european version. the only engine options in the VIN chart is a 2.0, not the 2.3 I have.

Anyone know where to find a US workshop manual? 2007 if I can be picky.

Warranty on the '07s and later are 3 yr/36K. On the '06s they were 4 yr/50K.
