Hey, guys. I've been browsing these forums for about...oh, I'd say the last 20 minutes or so (hah) and it got me intrigued, so I signed up. I bought an '09 MS3 GT in Metro Grey in November (about 3,000 miles on it). GREAT investment, I love driving this car. I am from Colorado but right now I'm stationed in Fort Polk, Louisiana with the Army. I drove from Colorado to Polk in February and it worked out great (I love the hatch back...I needed that extra room in the back for my computer).

Anyway, I've been wanting to get more speed out of this bad boy and unfortunately, I am in no way car knowledgeable, as far as finding the right parts to buy, and especially installing them. So a point in the right direction as to where I can get started with some mods would be great. It seems like a pretty agreeable and understanding crowd on these boards, which I like. So hey, here's another new guy. Thanks.
 
Welcome to boards! I'm not entirely that knowledgeable either and I've only had one mod done - one resonator delete - because I found the exhaust too muted when you were on the throttle (its kinda bassy at idle but nothin' after that). The resonator delete made it a bit growlier. Had it done at a shop for like sixty bucks.

Only other advice I can give you is to NOT try to "fix" the car running rich, it needs run that way to prevent explosion.

And pretty soon I'm going to tackle upgrading/complimenting the bose audio.

As far as the order to perform mods, I think anyone with a level head would first ask what you want out of the car. Do you have a hp goal, do you want to carve corners, etc.? Because if you want to add 20-25hp, that's one thing. If you want to add 100hp, that's something entirely different. Do you plan to track or autocross the car? Do you care about warranty issues?

(Mind you, I am only 6 months into MS3 ownership, so I am not the guy to actually suggest which mods to start with on this particular car. I'll leave that to the experts.)

One power mod that works well with almost any power mod plan on any car with forced induction (turbo/supercharger), though, is to add a CAI/SRI (Cold Air Intake/Short Ram Intake) to let the car breathe easier. Won't net much of a hp gain on its own, but it sets the stage for most other power mods to be more effective. If you're itching to do SOMETHING as soon as you can, that's a safe start.
 
Yep Depends on your goals and there are a bunch of threads for "starting out" mods. There is a good sticky for beginner mods too. Just read up. Most people seem to start out with an air intake.

Welcome! There are a few guys here in Louisiana with modded MS3's. I'd suggest starting out with an intake. Get either a Cobb SF Intake or a CP-E Nano. Both of these are of the Short Ram variety. Very simple install and easily reversible if needed.
 
Thanks for the information, fellas. I do want to break the 300 hp threshold and then some, and I want it to sound...mean. I won't do any body changes because the thing already looks sexy enough. The air intake does sound like a good start. I'll keep you guys updated with what I do as I do it.

Sounds good. Good luck!! Youll be needed some solid mods to break 300 whp :).
