I've been a looooooong time member of Club Si even though I've never owned one :p . I'm also kind-of a rotor head if you couldn't tell by my name. Anyway I'm considering getting a Protege ES (5 spd of course). I'm looking for an alternative to the dime a dozen Hondas, but I don't know much about them or what's available from the aftermarket. I know racing beat makes an exhaust but do they make the intake and header yet? and I hear about cams available only for JSpec Familia sedans(170hp) that are interchangeable any truth to that? So far I plan on doing I/H/E, racing beat springs + tokico shocks, Familia cams and ECU if they bolt up, wheels/tires and Mazdaspeed Protege clutch. I wanna get into auto X so i don't wanna get to hardcore with engine work. Also I hear the intake manifold on the MP3 is better flowing thatn the lesser models, any truth to that? and could you guys let me know of any other mazdaspeed/mp3 parts that can be used as upgrades. I don't have the car yet but I want to know what's out there and what the car is capable of before I give my hard earned cash away. TIA. :)

Ooolay chit, I just say the stick posts. well you can still answer my questions if you want. Free posts!!!

I am a member of Club SI also (LinuxNinja), and I will be the fst to tell you, get a Turbo for your ride. It is the best bang for the $$$. There is one member here making some impressive gains N/A (Chdesign), but I wonder how much he has spent? I don't know! He could have did the mods himself and saved money. I also have the J-spec motor from a Sport20 (after blowing my original with nitrous), and can tell you you will not get the horspower without some fine tunning, or the OBDI ECU from Japan. I myself in order to run the turbo, I lowered the compression down to the US spec 9.1:1. The only thing originally J-spec about my engine now is one of the cams. All in all I spent a great deal to get back where I started, and then get a turbo! Save your money for the turbo....my humble (not!) opinion!

RZFD, Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to our Club. There are TWO BIG fridge'S in the corner with anything you can think of in them...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have.

make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!

WELL I won't restate any of the info that linux already gave you.....hope to see you around. you will love the Pro

problem with mazdas is they are so well designed from factory that modifications done to them rarely net as high of gains as you would get on Hondas. I mean come on, have you seen the stock exhaust piping on the hondas - talk about in need of upgrading. But yeah, that's my $0.02

poor poor Linux. You keep taking all those hits, while Windows just keeps going.

Thanks.

Thanks for the replies guys, I'll definately look more into a trubo but Ipropably won't do anything like that untill AFTER the factory warranty runs out. So it'll probably be I/H/E and suspension for a while.:D

Heya RZFD,
I'm a member of ClubSi as well. I am DooMer_WI on there. About two years ago, all I wanted was a '00 EBP Civic Si. When I graduated college and got my job, I was looking for a used Si, and started to think that I might not want a used car. I wanted a warranty etc, and the feeling that nobody else had driven the car. I began looking into Spec Vs and all of a sudden saw a link off of clubSi to the Protege MP3. I was immediately hooked and put money down on a 2001 Lazer blue Mica MP3.

The only mod I have done is an AEM short ram. While it sounds nice, I'm not quite sure it does much :D. I am currently holding off on mods until I can afford a turbo kit and my warranty gets closer to running out. These cars don't seem to respond to NA as well as a Civic would.

Injen, AEM and Ractive all have intakes out. There are several headers in the works, but for some reason, nobody has finished them yet. Bosal makes a nice exhaust as well but last I heard it was severely backordered. TriPoint engineering has cam gears, and the only cams I know of are JSPEC cams which are only slightly different from stock.

Without tuning, don't expect to see much from I/H/E on this car. Its sad, but true :(.

Oh, yeah, welcome to the board :D!

Chris

i hope you weren't serious :)

well windows just toally crashes, but because it has tons of money it just buys a whole new car, Linux is awesome but always gets the shaft - like linux racer =P

heh, so being a mac user mine doesnt ever crash, just has less aftermarket parts available for it? Or do I get the shaft too?
