New exhaust on, and "fabricated" a short shifter for my sport auto muahhahah

Today I got a stock mazdaspeed axle-back (i think from the sedan model?) in the mail, cut the tip off, and mounted it. The sound is a little deeper, and in the higher 2 gears almost quiet. got it for 97bucks shiped, had 5k miles on it. Also had to buy a hacksaw to saw the edge off so i also cut about 1 1/2" off my shifter and put on my new razo shift knob. I'm really new at mazdas and here so if doing this was a "Fo Pa" i apologize (fu) , i dont mean to get anyones feathers ruffeled.:) Also i got a shot of the tip on my toolbox i feel bad about cutting it off but it stuck out like 8inches so it had to go.

All done in under an hour and a half woohoo.

Click my sig for the pics (drive)

well if some punk ass ****** did that to my car id beat him like a piece of meat

well with the sport auto, the gear selector can have a little more active role in the driving process - so a lower knob could be sportier, with more positive feel

No, but it actually doesn't look that bad. Definately unique.

Why did you make the auto a short shift? It's not a functional mod, is it?
previously i always grabed the metal stick under the knob when i used the auto shift, so i guess it is fuctional. Before i cut it, imagine the same knob but with like 2 more inches of metal stick under it ewwwww (puke)

I think it definitely looks better shorter. Too bad you got metal shavings all over the area though. The silver paint scratches very easily, so be careful removing the shavings!

Did you re-thread the shifter, or does the RAZO piece mount with set screws?

I like the cut tip. He should finish it tho. Maybe a little flare, but definitely smooth the rough edge.

U could have an exhaust shop cut the pipe leading to the tip (b/w the muffler and the tip) and have them weld the tip on...

That's what I was thinking...cut the excess pipe & weld the tip back in proper place but hey I have my car & everyone else has theirs. I like the shifter being shorter for other knobs, didn't put mine on due to the way the bottom of it didn't taper down like oem did leaving too much stick below it. Did you saw off all the threads or rethread it lower? Hope there was a rag or something there to catch shavings...........

s***, you beat me to it. I am planning the same thing for my super tall shifter. Looks good. Now go get a vacumn and clean up those shavings. (no) (smash)

No i didnt have to re thread it thank god, the razo knob is i think one of the bests designs i have ever seen, it comes in three pieces. A plastic tube with differant size stick holes, and a metal piece thats hidden behind the leather piece that screws over the plastic fitment adapter, then the leather piece just slips on over it with a snug fit and boom u got it. With the tip i might shop around but havnt seen any i liked yet. btw if anyone does this BE CAREFULL not to hit your dash with the blade i had a few near misses that scared the crap out of me. And drink a redbull before u do it cause the metal sure is dense, and hard to cut.

i ordered mine from this guy, they come in black and wood as well http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/RAZO...emQQcategoryZ33703QQitemZ8021209877QQtcZphoto this seller is great as well, the knob got to me in 2 days and in its original Japanese box so when u get the instructions they will be in japanese so good luck!
