YEa my bad N2O not NO2...that would be Nitrogen Dioxide...LOL my bad..
i just dont like Talons...they are ugly and just are not what i would choose to drive. but the thing that got me was that the guy that had the talon thought that his car was the s***. although it looked stock to me. he must have had somthing done to it. i thought that it was funny that he broke his drive train and (i think that is what he broke) but at the begining of the show he said that it was his daily driver. (hand)
you don't buy a talon or any dsm to be pretty, unless it's a 2g. you buy it to be fast. pretty cars suck. it was pretty stock when he went there from what i could tell, stock smic, stock ic piping, etc... he could've done some things to it but it looked pretty stock. it did have a clean engine though compared to my old one.
he broke an axle because they're retarded and ran slicks on an awd car that isn't exactly known for having a strong drivetrain, especially when they become 14 years old.
stupid honda boy tuning a dsm.

f) Having the DSM break (I spit out Coke from my nose when they said he broke a drive shaft, classic!)
(boom08) you were doing lines of coke and watching the discovery channel?

It turned into the same BS as all the other import shows. They need to focus more on the technology of the cars and less on some damn fool telling everyone in North America what she has under the hood.

i liked the part about how she said her kid comes before anything. YEAH RIGHT...was it me or did it look like the kid and the hubby didn't even come anywhere near first...LOL

Overall, thought the show sucked. What was the street race wager? was it $246, who the **** came up with that amount... :D

$246 is probably the weekly income from the MickeyD job, also to all the people criticizing it for being too cliche'....it's kind of hard to make a show about import racing that isn't...the whole scene has become one big cliche'. Also don't forget this was their first shot at it, seemed promising to me....the dynamic between the chic and her family life was downright interesting. Also they have to appeal to a broad audience, so they will not be getting that technical...none of those shows are. Anyway those are just my thoughts.

That show was just dead up lame. How in the hell did that chick get sponsored anyway. One question, did anyone notice the time frame stupidity. They made it seem like they switched out that engine in four hours, the whole time frame, American Chopper thing is getting boring. And Obie "I'm just lookin' for someone to take out", you're an idiot! "I've gotten a ticket for pretty much everything that you can." You make all import kids look dumb! Go back to high school.

haha

i Agree! (2thumbs)

man i just saw it...total crap! why the hell did they pick a civic? it didnt have a chance...and why the 1/8 mile? oh well

one of the tuners that tuned the Talon on the show commented on rx7club.com boards. Here's what he had to say.....

Hi guys, I just got home & finished reading all your posts.....I just want to say the show only shows you parts of what actually went on....for the first show I thought that they did a pretty good job to portray the lives of the two drivers....Then again...they have technically 45 minutes of air time to explain the lives of 6 guys, 2 girls and 2 cars, and a race to end the show... With that in mind, I just wanted to add comments on what everyone is saying.....
I saw some comments regarding the tuners....being one of them...I just want to let you know...the tuners in the show all have at 8+ years in the import industry with pro-class cars.
Autolink crew -
"Dr. Charles" - Driver of the Bergenholtz CRX ....1/4 mile time...mid 8's (sorry can't call his time off the top of my head)
Charles Hansen - 10 year performance tech & 10 sec club member in the drag racing scene
Sharon (me) - hard to say time wise in the industry since I have been around it since before the first sanctioned import drag race at actual race tracks ...and Crew of Gude Performance CRX - ALL MOTOR 11 sec. SOHC 1.6L CARB-ed (doing that time over 3 years ago) *retired the race car ..... but will be back for more*

Apex'i Crew -
Gary Castillo - one of the most reputable tuners in Southern California & Writer for Import Tuner (he does the Power Pages section but not limited to, which im sure most of you read) & 10+ years industry experience
Lanny Higa - Hawaiin import, 9 sec club member.....99 Pomona NHRA quick class winner
Jensen Oda - also works for APEX'I USA , and one of the fabricators of the APEX'I DRIFT CAR....(which im sure most of you are familiar with)

so for you to say that these people are "bolt on tuners", please know who you are talking about before giving your negative input (although you say no offense I just had to point that out...b/c these people have dedicated a lot of time in their lives to being a "bolt on tuner" in your eyes)

Also, Discovery Channel is going into this show blind....not knowing what was gonna happen with the show...to making something for all of us to see. The show was filmed 2 days at apex, 2 days at autolink, 1 track day, and then the days they followed the drivers (obie & leila). With over 150 + hours of footage, You have to cut down as much as possible, but still making the show flow. If they show every single part we put in the cars then we would really be sitting here for more than an hour. The tuners were not told who the drivers of the cars were, and on top of that we did not see the car till the morning of our prespective shoot days. So this already limits what we can do to the car, b/c first we don't know the condition of the car or its motor, and second you try finding talon parts in stock!!...(hahaha..sorry side note ...that was the hardest part...no one stocks talon parts)....also we are given 36 hours to make the calls....find the parts....tear the cars down...and do what we need....while sometimes having to take a part we just put on ...off..so that the film crew can film it again..b/c they had a bad angle, and taking time from us working on the car for hour long interviews...during those assigned hours.

oh yes...I posted this on the rx-7 forum, first of all b/c I am a fellow RX-7 owner **with 3 fd's in my driveway** & also..b/c it's in the lounge section and the footer does say.."Almost anything goes"...

I can't think of much more to comment on ....but if you do have any other questions or comments..I would like to hear them....I'm sure I can still come up with more....but it is 4:25 AM and my head is pounding...**just came from the cast party and wanted to know what you guys were talking trash about**

I forgot to post the parts upgraded/given to the AWD TALON...although they show us "messing around" a lot on the show, you have to know thats like probably 10 minutes total of our actual work time....& there was a lot of work put into the car and it's performance ...There is only so much we can do about his driving abilities....and the fact that they don't say that he actually broke 2 axles on the launch and he hit those times....literally "dragging" his car with the front 2.

Obie's car received over 7k in parts (which only discovery covered 1k) **we were given a thousand dollars to fix up these cars & the rest was up to us....it was not a fully sponsored car as they make it seem ** I myself had to put money out of my own pocket to get the car rims that would fit the slicks given to us by m&h.
PARTS LIST:
-Clutchmaster kit (clutch & flywheel)
-ZEX Nitrous kit & accessories (if anyone knows these kits..we didn't go 150 shot..they max out at 75)
-TODA Cam Gears
-AEM Stand-Alone, fuel rail, fuel regulator - **they didn't show us tuning the car either...but as you can see we have a big AEM sticker on the hood..for that trade off**
-16g or 20g (sorry i can't remember off the top of my head...im leaning 20g)
-M&H(all 4 slicks driven down from Northern Cali right after Johns fathers funeral )
-Fuel pump
-Spearco Intercooler and custom in house(Autolink) fabbed piping
-Power Enterprise Timing Belt
-Greddy Gauges
-Thermal Exhaust exhaust sytem
-Rotora brake upgrades
-ARP head studs
-Ground Control suspension
-Carbon fiber hood
-NEO oil & liquids
-VP Racing race gas (thanks vp for the motorcycle gas too ... for my YSR's)
**I know im missing a lot that I didn't post**

As said by chris (autolink crew) "I dont think most people can appreciate what it really took to put together 1. a car we really didnt like (Mitsubishi)and 2. do it in under a certain amount of time and have it filmed."

** we started filming monday at 11:00a.m. and ended our in shop filming tuesday 6:00p.m. = which really only gave us 31 hours...minus all the interviews...and parts run times....that I know sucked..b/c I was on them **
I seriously want you to run all over southern california picking up these parts..hahaha...during work hours...in TRAFFIC!...come on southern california people...vouch for LA traffic

She also said this...
Well, you have to understand..this is Discovery's first show on "import style" racing, We as tuners had no say in which cars they chose and on how they edited it to show. I am sure that if it is picked up....They are going to be more technical as time progresses, but for a first time concept they pulled it off. Also, from what I see they are trying to target people who are not in the industry and know nothing about cars. **don't take that as a direct quote...I didn't get to watch the full show....but I do think that future shows will get more technical as time progresses, and especially if they give us more leeway into saying what we would like to explain. From discovery's point of view, I am sure they had hollywood-ized the show to attract more people to watch. If they made it sooooooo technical to make car buffs be the only people who can understand, then you just cut out 95% of the rest of the viewers. Like it was said, they will outnumber car-buff viewers no matter what we say. I just hope that they do pick the show up so that we can input better ideas, but it is a start.

As far as cars go, you guys all know what apex'i does, but autolink is a smaller shop in comparison, but without them I don't think we would be having D1 events in america. They are the official sponsors of D1 and for everyone in california...**side note FEB. 28th D1 event...please go** Basically speaking, Autolink does do a lot of different types of cars, such as hondas, nissans, and mazdas. And services vary from regular tune-ups & bolt on upgrades to actual high performance cars. Right now in the parking lot...**especially with D1 right around the corner** I wouldn't be surprised to see a couple s15's and a few other RHD's sitting getting ready to play

*I have to research her car again....she might have pulled down her page..hahaha....Yea you like that internet spy action?*

interesting, it would be alot better if they gave them a week to tune, and a 5k budget like monster garage, on top of their freebies. imagine the rediculousness they could build then heh.

i still don't get why they would run slicks on the dsm... but i am glad to see a comprehensive list of what they did to it. should be a quick car with a good driver

Man what a waste of my TiVo hard drive space. Pathetic 1/8 mile. My crown vic ran numbers like that.

I REALLY wish that these dumbasses would get their facts right also. They said nitrous was explosive. Wrong. Kinda like all the info for the one "Rides" show. That wasn't a friggin 76 mustang it was a 67.

Both drivers sucked. Niether did very well. The boy in the DSM couldn't lose. Lets think, ex honda vs. AWD talon? B16 civic vs. AWD talon? Turbo B16 vs. AWD talon? I've seen civics push 400 hp with a simialar setup.(A lot more boost and tuning) In the 1/8 its all about the launch. Now on a 1/4 it could have been different if that girl wasn't driving or had boost for longer than a day. Lots of honda haters here. If it wasn't for civics most of you would be driving mustangs or caprices. Lots of respect for both of those shops though. A two day swap and tune with turbo and nitrous... not easy. Both of these shops pretty much did this for free. They did well with what they were given. Show so respect.

One question how is nitrous not explosive? High pressure storage, high O2 content. That seems pretty explosive to me.
