New CX-9, Fob doesn't open windows

CX-9 Touring
I just got my first Mazda and my first new-new car! 2011 CX-9 AWD Touring.

Reading the manual, I found that I should be able to hold down the unlock button and see the front windows and sunroof open. Cool, I think! Unfortunately, it doesn't work. I just get the unlock beep. Fine, try it again. Nope, just another unlock beep. Again? Nope, more unlock beep. Windows don't go down, sunroof doesn't open.

I see other people refer to this feature. Holding down the unlock button doesn't seem like too complicated a thing to get right. What might be up? It looks like all models should do this, right?

on my 2008 it did it, and on the 2011 it does it 2. you have to have it in lock state. then press the unlock 3 times with the third you are holding it down. it should open the driver/passenger, and the longer you hold it the moon roof will slide.

unfortunately it won't do the opposite. Its great for those super hot days, and you don't want to get into the cabin just quite yet.

Thanks!

That did it! Click-hold did not, click-click-hold hadn't done it, but I hadn't tried click-click-hold. I'll definitely use that. Thank you!

Glad to help. Its something you won't use everyday, but its nice once in a while when you remember it does it. :)

2012 CX - 9 Touring

I had no idea about this function so went to garage to give it a try. No luck. I'm thinking it isn't possible to mess up that sequence (click 3x, hold on last). Any suggestions? I wouldn't have missed it had I not read about it.

Bob,
check if your windows are in lockout mode (i.e. the switch on the driver's door panel that locks
out the rest of windows). Make sure it is NOT in lockout mode.
Then,
1) lock the vehicle
2) clickUnlock once (this unlocks the driver's door)
3) clickUnlock second time (this unlocks all other doors/hatch)
4) clickUnlock again and hold it down this time - in a second or two, the front windows
will start to roll down. After another second, the moonroof (if you have it) will start to open too.
(The 3rd click should be within 1-2 seconds after the 2nd click)

On my GT, I can skip (4) and hold down the unlock button at (3). Both work.
i.e. unlock-unlock(n-hold) or unlock-unlock-unlock(n-hold)

You hold the unlock button until the windows and the sunroof open all the way. I think that if you let it go sooner it will stop. I guess you hold it until it opens as much as you want. I haven't done this in a long time. You can close the windows by turning the key to lock and holding it there not sure about the sunroof as i haven't done this in a long time either. I will try to check both this weekend.

I think Bob got it working with two unlocks-n-hold (posted in another thread).

Mazda deactivates the capability to close windows/moonroof (as you said, you have to do that with metal key)
for safety concern (or legal concern depending on your angle). My old BMW can do both. This is not due to
technical difficulty or cost concern. Just to avoid lawsuits.
(with metal key, you have to be very close physically. Therefore, you can't claim innocence if someone get pinched
by the windows.)

AFAIK, you can still (only) auto-close the windows and roof by holding down the drivers door button.

Anyone have trouble with the windows only going down about 3"? I then have to repeat the process and it goes another 3". Finally the third time is a charm and all the windows are fully open.

I think it's the "crack open" feature or child protection feature for non driver side. Some cars do this. Does it work the same on all windows?

Here's a head scratcher - I can now open the sunroof with the ignition turned OFF. Don't think I could do this before programming my key settings to option 5.

Can I get a witness? :-)

HOLOHOLO,
Within 30 seconds from ignition off?
If yes, that is accessory power, which lasts only 30 seconds.
It is there since day one, nothing to do with your programming.

I'll check. Thanks Ceric. Seems like my tailgate is easier to open now too.

Either way - I really like the programming change. Auto lock/unlock with drive/park. I HATED stepping out of the driver side and not being able to open the trunk without having to go back and push the unlock again!

Yes Ceric. You're correct again. After 1 min the roof would not open w/o the key.

With this setting, ALL the doors unlock when the car is in park and i can run to the trunk and open it every time. Sweet.
