[font=Arial,helvetica,sans-serif][size=-1]My new computer! And I got Office XP Pro 2003 for $70 today. Finally coming into the 21st century, this is the replacement for the old 550mHz that I've been keeping alive for way to long now. Should come tomorrow but I won't be able to set it up till next week cause we are going to Boston for Thanksgiving.

well what i wanted to build was an athion 64 3500+ with the Abit 3rd eye motherboard but the cost was about $1200 for just that w/ 512mb ram. this way I'm getting the DVD burner and the 17" LCD and stuff for less. The next one will be built the way I want by me. This is to get me by for a couple years till I do that.

Gee , how did i know someone was going to come in here and show thier big e-dick? not everyone wants to or can build thier own...let em be

in "theory" I could build a machine cheaper or at least better for the same price as most dell's

But, in practice it never ends up that way. I always end up spending more because I am weak, and can't say no to cool tech geeky type toys

example. I built my machine in August. I couldn't get a 6800 GT vid card then. So, I got a 9800 pro. The 9800 pro is fine. Runs everything great, and at 1280x1024 too. You'd think that would be good enough.

Nope, I'm now trying to sell it, and get a 6800gt from eVGA or BFG

I have no will power when it comes to cars, and electronic toys...and playboy models :)

WELCOME!

I feel your joy. Last week I finally got my computer up and running again on Win XP. My old ATI All-In-Wonder 128 AGP card finally works again after 3 years of not giving a damn. You see, I was running Win 98 on my system like 3 years ago with a Ricoh DVD/CDW drive. Everything was great. Then I decided to upgrade to XP (like when it 1st came out), and my TV Tuner functions stopped working, and my DVD drive stopped working. :( Went to ATI.com, and got the drivers that were supposedly supposed to work. They didn't. So I went to Win 2K server. That didn't solve my driver problems as you can imagine. So for 3 years, I just said **** it. Then a couple of months ago, my hard drive died. Lukily I have a file server where I have my important stuff stored. I went to Fry's looking for a 80GB HD, but walked out with a 120GB HD. A couple of weeks later, I found the time to sit down and install XP again, and then I went looking for the drivers for my card again. Amazingly enough, my TV Tuner worked again!! Now the only issue was the fact that I have no sound! I guess whatever took out my HD, took out my SB PCI512 card as well. Well, when I had to replace the motherboard a few years back I made sure it had a built-in sound card exactly for this purpose. So now, I'm back into computers again, and am finding out that I'm a few years behind. I mean, I have had like 768 MB of RAM for like 3 years, but it will run out soon...!! (evil)

I used to work at DELL, and still have a lot of friends working there. I might be able to hook you up with some discounts...maybe. Although that system will ship very quick from DELL so I don't know if there is enough time..

I think I got a good deal. I used a 25% off and got the free 17" LCD and upgrage to 512RAM. The system priced at over $1400 before the coupon and would be even more without the LCD promotion.

I have an ATI AIW128pro 32mb AGP - it's in a P3 850 with 384MB RAM. I'm selling it to a friend for $200. He wants to do video capture with it - and it does a pretty good job.

Just figured I give a shout about the old school AIW 128 cards!

That video card?????? - eek.

Oh, and I'm just curious if anyone here has more computer stuff than I do. I won't go into all the details, but I have 2.5TB of HD space - anyone come close?

No - If that was the case - I'd still probably win. I work for Horizon Blue Cross Blue Sheild. They are a major health insurance carrier. I also work for a medium sized investment company. I also work for a small coffee/office supply distributor... I work too much.

Hahah! If we were going by jobs, you should try mime. I am the sys admin of a few HP Superdomes that have over 2 TB each!! There are also thousands of other servers (Sun, HP, Linux, AIX) that have comparable space. Our datacenter is like the size of a NFL Football Field.

Cool man! Yeah, that's the exact card I have (32mb, not pro though :( ). When I upgrade cards, I'm gonna move it over to one of my Linux Servers.
