We just purchased pearl- a white w tan leather GT. I have no problem driving around town, but drive her 400 miles last week, and sitting in the passenger seat my back was killing me! The seats and leather seem very hard to me. I bought a gel cushion at walmart, and this helps a lot. I am nervous about an upcoming 12 hr drive. Has anyone else noticed this? I was thinking of buying a Honda crv, loved the interior, but chose the Mazda for the great engine, the deal we got, and fab reviews.... The GT was rather loud on the interstate, but seems to be the complaint of many in this class. Plenty of power, my husband liked driving it! Anyone else have issues w the seats?!

I have the leather seats too, and yes they are firm as it is to be expected with new leather.
Its harder than cloth, and needs to be, because cloth will not get softer/ stretch as much with time, but leather will.

same goes with new leather shoes, coat and sofa... it will get softer and strech more with time.
if you have had any of those things in the past... even a leather wallet or baseball mitt, you will know what I mean.

i agree that for the first months, they are on the firm side, for me these are my first leather car seats, so its the first time I have seats as firm as these.

If you know some fat folks, take them for a long ride, it will help stretch the leather faster ;-)

And my wife says my fat buddy is good for nothing!

I have 10,000 miles on my '14 GT - the seats aren't better. I went with the GT because the seats in it are more comfortable than the cloth. But that's not saying much. My wife hates it, and a 6 hour drive to Las Vegas just about killed both of us. This is simply not an extended road trip car due to the seats. It is my number one complaint over all.

Wow! Ha! Thanks for the offers, my hubby is a big guy, so guess he'll be the seat stretcher! Like I said I have no problem driving around town, but for the upcoming long drive I got a gel cushion at Walmart that I hope will help a lot! I think the hardness of the seats just makes my whole back lock up! We will see....my husband says if I wanted cushy seats I should have bought something else...

In my experience, cushy seats are terrible for long drives. Firm support is required for all day comfort. I've driven my CX-5 with cloth seats for eight hours at a time (stopped for a quick lunch) and had nothing but comfort. I wouldn't have bought the car if it didn't have firm, supportive seating. Competitive long-distance motorcycle riders know the value of firm seating. Almost all of them replace the rather soft OEM saddles with firmer custom-made solutions to avoid the very painful "butt burn" that the softer saddles cause after long hours in the saddle.

I personally love the seats. Yes, they are firmer than most, but are very supportive for long trips.

Agreed. I've never had the slightest problem with these seats. They are designed to give a better feel for the road, the same as most sports car seats.

I find CX-5's seats average, unfortunately.

I got used to them for up to 1 hr drive, but find them uncomfortable when sitting 2 or more hours.

I'm not a big fan of my GT seats. As a driver it's okay, but as a passenger there isn't much leg support as they feel a little slanted forward - front passenger and rear.

I have a Honda Ridgeline with leather seats, and now after owning it long enough to have a bunch of decently long trips 3+ hours with both vehicles I have the following conclusion: The seats in the Ridgeline are softer and noticeably more comfortable during the drive. However when I get out of the truck at the end of the drive, it takes a few mins to stretch out my very tightened back and leg muscles. With the CX-5 its the opposite. The seats feel harder and less comfortable during the drive. But when I get out at the end, I feel great, no muscle tightness or anything. I think this is a fundamental difference between firm and soft seating in general. Its going to come down to personal preference.
