Neutral safety switch trouble-shooting?

Makes sense!

I'm glad you got the cheap/easy fix!

Well it's not completely proven yet,... neither of us has actually replaced the entire length of wire but I read through the post and I said to replace the wire 11 times and it hasn't happened yet. I'm not the one with the problem but I'm so convinced of replacing the entire length of wire that I am willing to do it to my own car,... maybe I'll have to take a video of doing it for evidence. The only other thing I can think of is driving to NC and doing it for him ????
I'm banging my head cause this is so simple to do compared to a complete replacement of the wiring harness (or even trying to trace the wires). I sure hope he tries it before doing the full expensive replacement.

I remember doing essentially the same thing to my Tracker,... It would blow a fuse whenever I hit the brake. It was shorting to ground some where between the brake switch and brake lights. I checked the wiring diagram and found that the wire only went from the switch to the lights so I just replaced the entire length between the two. Trying to find the actual short to ground would have been extremely hard to do, requiring pulling off moldings and cutting the wire in numerous places to isolate the bad spot then splicing them all back together I just did one full cut and splice,.... way easier,... way faster,... I didn't even bother tucking the wires just ran it along the mouldings inside the car.

I suppose,... worst case scenario, is if he shorts out his ECU but the circuit is protected from that,... That's what sets off the code,... It shouldn't blow the circuit,... When the switch is closed it's a dead short for the circuit anyway,.... I don't know what else to say.

I'm figuring out how to cut & paste from the FSM

I don't know what the circled numbers 3 and 4 on the black wire beneath the switch mean. I'm assuming it's the different junctions the ground wire goes through on it's path through the harness connectors.

It does say (EM) meaning emission harness.

Driving me nuts... Re-dislocated my shoulder pushing it off the road in a busy intersection yesterday after a skateboard accident last year. After both new sensors new grounds and new signal wires on both the neutral safety switch and clutch switch to pins 6 and 64 and still throwing this damn p0705.

I'm assuming either the brand neutral safety switch I put in there is also bad or the ground wires to the switches lead to something else other than body ground?? No pin number call outs that I can find?? Killing me!!

Did you check right at the ECU (at the pins) to see if they are switching properly ??

The last step in trouble shooting is to replace the ECU.

Yes... wont be swapping ecus quite yet.... Any idea where this X-06 Connector is that's between the clutch switch and the ecu. I know the wire bundle goes up across the dash but not sure exactly where to. I'm assuming the ground signal must be tied into something else... In the schematic it appears to be tied in with the reverse and speed sensor but whether just a shared ground more of series....

Taking my haltech and 750cc injectors out of the picture and redo sensor wiring back how it was and start over at this point.

My computer crapped out so I can't access my diagrams,...

However I'm pretty sure there is 2 switches on the clutch pedal,.. one for cruise control and the other for the ECU signal.

They are only on/off switches,.. very simple,.. no sensitive electronics.

I'm pretty sure (but not positive) that you run a wire straight from the clutch switch directly to the ECU,... bypassing all the inter weaved connectors.

I really don't think the clutch switch would tie in with the speed sensor signal,... if anything,.. they may share the same ground.

I remember for sure that the neutral switch connects with nothing else and you can run a wire right from the switch on the tranny directly to the ECU.

If I were you,.. I would run a completely separate wire, directly from the neutral switch to the ECU and same for the clutch switch,... Make sure you get the correct clutch switch,.. one goes to the Cruise control,...

I did run completely new wires but only to the connector at the sensor since it was brand new but... never know... Getting under the car today to rerun wire all the way. Already replaced the clutch switch too with a new one... I know it has its own fault code but figured might as well.

Bypassed all connectors... ran perfect around the block then two hours later its not starting and not throwing a cel wtf??

K so after bypassing all connections and still having the same issues... the last thing to check was also the first thing that was done... putting in a new neutral safety switch. Switch was damaged due to the tip of the threaded part of the sensor was apparently protruding too far tip got boogered up and the plunger wouldn't come all the way out...maybe was supposed to have a washer?? Any way I had an old one with broken wires that I re-soldered and stuck in there but it was still obstructing me from sliding into gear... cut out a washer and all is good now. Tranny rebuild coming soon but I'm hoping something is not off with my shift linkage that caused this?
