How did the weather hold out for you guys? Post up some pics!!!
I spent most of Saturday and part of Sunday installing new springs in the REPU. I got a set of Ford Courier springs earlier this year that I couldn't get installed without cutting. The height was OK but I was rubbing the fenders when I turned. So I bought another set and after countless hours of swearing and several trips to home depot I got them in. Spring compressors were no use. I tried both types from Autozone but couldn't install the spring with them on. I finally picked up some long bolts from home depot and found the secret incantation to get them in.
1) Completely remove lower control arm, 2) put control arm on jack, and spring on control arm, 3) lift up and slightly compress spring enough to connect new long bolts on back of control arm, 3) Lower control arm, 4) Raise outside of control arm until ball joint will slide into place, 5) hammer the bejezuz out of ball joint until the holes line up and bolt it in place, 6) lower jack and raise it back up from rear portion of control arm 7) raise and lower and raise and lower until the rear of the control arm slides up the long bolts 8) Once in place, replace the long bolts with the original short bolts, 9) reinstall shock, sway bar links, and top bump stop that I removed to get more leverage, 10) repeat for the other side.
All said and done, the truck sits about 2" higher than it did before (I was hoping for only 1" but it looks fine). I increased the rear shock pressure from 30psi to about 80psi to match height. I've almost maxed out the front lift. It rests about 1/2" from the top bump stops.
How does it drive? Like a firm truck. There is virtually no body roll now. It feels so much better. And it doesn't rub anymore! I'll take some photos soon.
