Negative comment on Mzd3

I have my Mzd3 for almost 3 weeks already and I have some negative comment on this car. The car in general is great, no need to re-emphasize all the merits of this car. However, there are two minor issues that I want to point out and I hope Mazda would address this problem in the next version. Firstly, the steering wheel is too thin as compare to the peers. Although it is wripped with leather, the feeling is just like driving a Toyota Tercel, I think they should make it a little bit thicker in order to match with the whole outstanding steering system. Secondly, the paint of the car is too thin. I know this is an economy car, however, my comparison is based on the same grading autos, such as Corolla, Sunny, Civic, etc. The paint of Mzd3 is almost the thinnest one. It is totally below my expectation. I don't know the version in US or Canada is different or not. But for my version in HK, the paint is really really thin.....and I am totally disappoint on the Titinium Grey.......esp. when there is dirt on it.........

i agree that the paint is very thin, the same is on my protege. sorry you're not satisfied in these aspects, but they are things that can be fixed/changed. Also welcome to the boards, i remember when civics there were worth the same as mercedes here, how much was yours if i may ask?

since this is not an expensive car, the tax rate is kind of low, just around 30%. If you buy a Mer. Benz here, the tax rate is 100%. The total cost of my Mzd3 is around US$20,000.

Yo.. wasssup .. I'm from HK too, but living in US right now (spin)
many car makers shift to more environmental friendly paints , which is thin and weak .. nothing you can do about it

if you check forums of evolution and STI, you will find they complain even more (esp owners of Evolution)

glad to know it costs only 20k, but what kind of horse power ? 168 or 148 ..

Yup, most newer cars have crappy paint. Acura's have chipping problems as well as Nissan. Blame the environmentalists.

As for the steering wheel: they do sell leather aftermarket wraps that lace up.

Talk about crappy paint....... you guys pay any attention to the Doge Neon? Why is is that every single Neon I see rolling down the street has chipped paint all over the body. I guess Dodge saves the "good" paint for the Vipers  . Either that or Neon owners just don't know how to take care of their cars.

Oh no, the crappiest paint was on my old car, a Chevy Corsica. That thing peeled like crazy. I guess there was some kind of defect in the paint and it affected a lot of Corsica's. And it got all mottled and spotted too like it had been acid rained on. In comparison, I love the paint on my pro.

US$20,000 is cheaper compared to canada ..here m3s r 25,000$..

i thought the steering wheel was thick enough (uhm) but i hear u man..

The only model availiable in HK is just 1.5L with 115hp...US$20,000 with Leather seats, sunroof, 6-CD, auto-air, DSC+TCS, 4 disc brakes, Leather steering w/audio switch, rear spoiler, leather shift knob with +/- shift, etc.

Also, may I know whether the DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) and TCS (Traction Control System) are the standard in the US and Canada?

From safety standpoint, if I ask you to choose one, do you guys recommend to have DSC+TCS or LSD system?....interesting question?

Uhhh - togan, CAD$25000 is cheaper than the USD$20000 he paid... 20K US is about CAD$26.6K

And I think your Mazda3 quote is a bit high?
