need your help!

most of you are aware of my paint woes of late. well, today i recieved the "official" response forrm mazda canada regarding my complaint.

they have agreed to repair the front fascia at no cost to myself.

however....and sit down for this one......they say that all yellow p5's are NOT clear coated and that it is NORMAL for paint to rub off.

am i alone in saying "you have got to be shitting me!!!"

i plan to fight mazda tooth and nail but i need your help to gather information.

there are 2 strategies.....

1. most of you are under the impression that ALL our cars are clear coated. well if you are right i need proof positive. if someone has the options sticker from when they bought the car or has another document unequivocly stating clear coat could you PLEASE post it or e-mail it to me.

2. i've searched the net but i can't find any literature pertaining specifically to the "base coat enamel" (single stage/no clear coat paint) paint job that mazda says my car has. i need a list of properties and something documented stating that paint coming off is NOT normal.

any help would be much appreciated.

I don't have any info about the paint but I did wax my car recently and the paint did not come off.

I used Zaino. I used the clay bar too. I used white cotton towels to buff off the excess wax and I did not see any yellow residue.

i actually called Mazda Canada & Mazda USA 2 times each and asked about the paint. They told me all colors have clear coat.

So I don't know what's going on.

I remember seeing a window sticker online somewere let me see if I can find it.

sticker?

i'm not sure where it's supposed to say it. i've never seen it, the paint shop guy said it was there. btw your picture isn't showing up.

at any rate thanks for the quick reply.

sticker!

never mind i must be stupid....the pic works fine. however your right, i can't find mention of the paint anywhere. i'm gonna print it off and bring it to my paint guy.

Roswel....I went out to each of my P-5's and got the stickers out of the glove box...yes I kept them....I have a yellow just like you...and my wifes is the black mica...I know for an absolute fact that the black is clearcoated....but there is no mention of that fact on the factory sticker for her car...NOR does it have it anywhere on the sticker of my car....the only reference to the paint at all is the name of the color near the top...that is it..

what I would do if I were you is to contact Mazda Canada AGAIN and ask the question about the clear coat....do not tell them you have called before....pretend you are someone different all together....ask who you are talking to, take down their name....if they tell you that they ARE...now you have a person you have talked to.....you are getting the run around....that is all there is to it.

Just wondering. If we dont have clear coat, could we just go to a paint shop and get it. And if we could, is there a ball park on how much it may cost. I could ask my painter friend, but hes at work right now, and Im bored and just feel like chatting.

if you want to be very techincal about it any quality paint shop should have a device that they use to custom match colors. You place it right on top of the paint and it will tell you the thickness of the paint in mil's, what the color make up is, and if it's clear coated or not. The guy at mazda may have gotten confused because im sure mazda uses a one step clear/base paint. it's a lot cheaper and easier to apply that the traditional base coat/clear coat. I will have to agree though that the paint on the mazda flat out sux, hell i even have rust popping through on the passenger side rear quarter. don't even live in a salty enviroment either.

20ESGUY, you said you have rust popping up. Im just wondering, I though that I saw in part of our warranty that we have some kind of rust warranty of some sort. I could be wrong though.

Yeah we do, 100k if i remember right. I used to be the warranty administrator/service advisor/mechanic/parts advisor at the dealership where i bought my car. i've got a bunch of chips and sh*t all over it too. I'm waiting till i get some money to finish out the j-spec body to get it painted and fixed. I already talked to my old boss about he said no prob.

hey 2oesguy since you were a warrenty adviser i was wondering i got to take my p5 to mazda dealership to get some warranty work done on my sunroof and i was wondering that will my 17 inch rims void my warranty or not cause if it doesnt im gonna leave them on there when i take it to the dealer thanks for any info
