sound damping without weight is like a dirty magazine with no pictures.
but seriously sound damping sheets are to stop vibration most of those type pads arnt made for keeping road noise out. for road noise you need sound absorbative materials like foam to put between you and the road.

That stuff isnt going to do much to cut out side noise. Maybe just vibrations.

not to argue but i used this stuff in my VW and it made a huge difference ... i used a 100 Sq ft kit and put it on every possible surface ... afterwards i could tell a noticable difference ... yes its not silent but its alot quiter
i would pick up a 100 kit ... i belive the trunk and rear hatch to be areas needing serious attention ... then the doorszmepro said:

Ha, yea Avatar owns, 100 sq ft would be a difference.
to do it right it takes a long while ... pull out your full interior and make sure you dont have any gaps ... every gap add's up ... if you just lay down random squares your just handing your money away ... its better to do one area 100% then 4 areas 25% ... just my opinion however
OOOO ya ---- this was done for sound deadening from the subs shaking the s*** out of things --- and it worked great for that ---- it helped with the road noise too but there is a better way for JUST road noise ---

I did it at the same time as putting down a couple layers of eDead as well, but in your case, if weight is of issue, carpet padding is MUCH lighter weight, and it Kills noise. Dynamat type stuff mostly just reduces vibrations and lowers resonant frequencies, which DOES, indeed cause and add to noise, but Carpet padding stops it or at least filters it out.

I have since done my wheelwells as well, and while it shoudl be ntoed that it is a fairly snug fit back there, the results are AMAZING... after doing padding under my carpet upfront, I noticed alot of sound coming from my wheelwells, 2 layers of eDead, and one layer of carpet padding later, GONE... it's absolutely amazing howmuch difference it made. Perhasp it was the remaining link, or maybe it would've done mosre good to jsut do that in the first place and see from there, but it was a very big difference. I've heared 3 ppl who metered their car cruising at freeway speeds that after adding 2layers of carpet padding dropped about 7-10db. that's HUGE. and very noticeable.

dynamat and all alternatives are not designed for blocking sound. yes they do block sound to a certain extent, but not nearly as well as actual sound absobring materials. the mats are designed as sheet metal insulation and to get them to stop vibrating. they reject a bit of heat and they prevent some rattles. i've found that a combination of at least 2 layers of mat and 1 layer of padding works great. you don't need the mat on the floor, since that metal is much thicker than the doors, trunk, and roof. doing the roof is a b****, though. i did it in my protege, and it really wasn't worth it, even with 2 layers up there. use the mat on the doors, both the inside and outside skins, and the trunk. then put the padding over it and put the panels back on.

Cascade make some pretty good deadening materials. The stuff that help with the noise goes in on the floor under the carped its like an 1/8 in of rubber and a 1/4 in of foam rubber glued together. Works really well. Doing that and deadening all the rest of your interior professionally will run you around $1,700.

i have 4 or 5 large rolls of sound deadening. It's maybe 4 years old and it's just been sitting doing nothing but taking up space. I pretty sure you could do 85% of the car with what i have. Large enough to do door panels in one peice. It has adhesive on the back, but it never stuck very good, but enough to hold it in place.

Carpet padding at a local carpet store. just make sure you get Heartex-style or synthetic (don't knwo why they call it synthetic, it's not like foam is natural) that's a matted yarn. Anything foam is bad for moisture retention, Look at the stuff that's in intruders clubpro post http://www.clubprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7668 that's what you want.
