Need some opinions on a few logos I made

Hey everyone its Pablo (duo2999 or the guy with the black vert fc).

I don't know his screen name on here but Ryan (has a red Mazda3) had talked to me and thought about making a separate website for information on San Antonio Mazda Club meets just to have a place where we can go and get information or post photos or whatever, and the website is up (I think, I will include the link and hopefully it is online) but I am kind of at a loss for where to go with the logo for this. I didn't want to just have text that says the name, but I didn't want it to be something that wasn't interesting to look at.

I don't think photobucket will take these links down, but if they should I can upload elsewhere and link them again. I drew these up in illustrator and some are just only text, but I wanted a logo that could be used separately from text and still make sense if someone saw it. I am open to all constructive criticism.

I forgot which Ryan said he was leaning towards but I think it was just the text ones, but I mean if this is going to represent more people, then I would like to know what everyone thinks. If the name or words need to be changed, please speak up because I just made the name something that seemed to work. I was going to make it "San Antonio Mazda Car Club" but I figured that the word 'car' could be left out. Alright now on to the photos.

Very first one

Using different text, but didn't like it too much

I have no idea why I did this one, but it is better to get the ideas out then keep them in your head, even if they aren't really good ideas

This is when I first tried using the Alamo, but I was told it resembles something that a car dealership could use

This is the just text one, no separate symbol but it seemed to work.

This seemed to be a good layout for the logo with text, but I wasn't happy that I just slapped Mazda's logo there with some text

This is where I came up with putting the Alamo shape within the Mazda symbol. I thought it is a very elegant solution. But I am not sure how it is read by a lot of people. Do you see the Alamo?

The rest of these are color variations of the Mazda blue, red, black, and gold colors.

I could really see this being used for an "Alamo Mazda Car Dealership" place, if it existed (There isn't one right?).

I tried coming up with variations in that line. I figured it people didn't see the Alamo right away, that this line could try to remind people what it is.

Let me explain the Alamo thing. Yes, I do know that the Alamo is used like a ***** in logos and whatever else in San Antonio, but I like using it in a different way. You can see I tried it just plopping it on top of 'Mazda' to see how it turned out, and it was ok but i didn't think it felt that it was there yet, where ever there is. In the Mazda symbol I put the shape of the Alamo upside down so it would flow with the logo instead fighting it.

It is upside down though.

I'm not sure if that is a problem but I don't think it detracts from the logo and it really speaks 'San Antonio' to me or maybe even Texas. I was going to try to use The Tower of Americas, but there isn't anything too distinct about it.

Now that I think about it, maybe the Alamo shape could go on top of the Mazda Logo, but I didn't want to alter the basic shape of the 'M' symbol.

Thoughts?

Hmmm...yea I did like that 8th one as well. I should do a few more variations of that one today.

1,7,8,15,18,19 are the ones I like. It's hard to pick just one because they are all good in their own way. I like the way you incorporated the Alamo in the Mazda symbol.

The site is up but subject to many changes. There isn't a lot of information in it right now.

San Antonio Mazda Crew

I like this one too, but I have to find out what to do with the space between the mazda symbol and san antonio. looking at it now, it seems like there is too much space.

I haven't done any revisions just yet since i spent the afternoon washing two cars and vacuuming both of those and mine.

I am going to make some more logos for the local rotary group we had and I'd like some feedback on those. I thought I had a good number but I forgot I didn't really go too far with them, so tonight there should be some. I need dinner too though...hmm. Foods...yea.

WOW!! 'Lotsa' work and thought went into these. Good job!!

I would say avoid the ones that will be hard to read from any distance. The fancy fonts can look good but are not likely to get you meaning across very well.
Also, the Mazda/upside down Alamo logo... I don't think many people would get that either.

I do like the ones utilizing the Mazda flying wing and the Alamo together. And the thinner ones, for example, could be used on low a door or the back of a front fender.

Just my 2 cents.

Hmmm I see. I completely agree with what you said. I have been trying to make sure the logos will at least be recognizable if they are small. That is one of the hardest things in making a logo from what I have learned. So the name might be changed from the current one to San Antonio Mazda Crew. No big deal because crew and club are the same length; it will require some updating and more logos as well. I haven't gotten to the SAMC one's just yet, but I have been working on some for the separate rotary group that I have been a part of for about half a year now. We aren't too well organized, but if we had something to stand behind maybe it would make people more confident in the group? I don't know.

We don't even have a name for ourselves. So I took the liberty of doing that. I wanted to incorporate all of the san antonio area, not just san antonio but surrounding cities and what not. The name I came up with is 'Bexar Rotary'. Mike seems to really like it and I am happy with it.

Here are a few logos I came up with for that.

This doesn't really count. This is a fairly old mazda logo that I wanted to try and clone for the one below. It's ok. Mine is. The mazda one has a great vintage feel.

Maybe in a few hours I can have more SAMC logos put out, but depends if I fall asleep before I can upload them.

As you can see I'm just putting them together and I have no idea what I want to do for the text, so I just pull some fonts from here and there and try it to see what it looks like. I wanted a vintage/classic feel because the cars that meet up are usually older (10+ or even 20+) but I didn't want it to lack the energy that the owners have. The text that is made up of lines was an idea from the 'Turbo II' emblem on the Tii Fc's. As far as the county shape, yay or nay for that? I mean bexar county is kind of recognizable but thats only if you live in texas I suppose.

Lol I think that some of these resemble plumbing logos I have seen, but I can't remember any.

I'm not going to give descriptions this time because I want to hear what y'all say and see in them.

Ok so for the SAMC logo, I have seen what people are sort of gravitating towards and I am trying to make one that will please everyone. I just came up with five more variations.

SAMC_Logo-26.jpg

I tried filling in that area with just a line, and it did help it.
SAMC_Logo-27.jpg

I'm afraid when this one gets small, it might just look like mazda with some white lines in it.
SAMC_Logo-28.jpg

SAMC_Logo-29.jpg

This was to satisfy my want to see what it would look like.
SAMC_Logo-30.jpg

SAMC_Logo-31.jpg

I squashed down the Alamo shape, and everything just seemed to fit a lot better. I need to align the text and the symbols more exact, but these are just roughs. I really think this is going in a really good direction. More thoughts please?
