Need new key/transmitter

I knew this kind of thing would happen eventually. One minute your kid is playing with your keys...the next thing you know your keys are missing.

Anyway, anyone have any luck buying the key fob from eBay or anywhere else? The Stealership comes in at ~$230...please tell me it's not going to come to that...

Anyone have to buy one and program your self?

Take the new remote to a hardware store to get cut and follow these directions to program it-

You may have to get the dealer to program it since you don't have 2 other keys though...

awesome,thanks for the info...one of my other tabs right now is watching one of his auctions for that same key. Thanks for your story...one thing I have to say though, is I only got one remote key and one spare when I bought the car...did you get more than one remote at time of purchase?

try to get a mazda 6 fob, i read somewhere that the trunk release button works.

I just bought a 4 button fob + blank key off eBay for $40. Had blank cut at local locksmith (hardware stores were useless).

Problem is the side grooves on the blank are not deep enough so key will open door but won't turn ignition.

I was able to reprogram the remote buttons for the car. Just waiting on another blank to try the "key" part again.

This is a four button Mazda fob with the same FCC ID as the one I have. Trunk release does work with the 2.

I did the same thing as you but bought the 4 button remote with the trunk release from your keyless remote. Key looked brand spanking new just make sure you buy the correct FCID. My local mazda dealer cut the new key for free too.

Wow, you're dealer sounds awesome. Mine wanted $60 just to cut the key I bought from eBay, no programming or anything. I got the hardware store to do it for >$2.

The same dealer wanted $19k for a manual Touring 2 through a dealer trade with a dealer an hour or two away.....

When you lost you key fob did you have another key fob?

I lost my original key fob.
I got 2 blank 4-button key fobs off ebay for a good price, only reason why I bought two.
Is it possible to program the key fob without having to go to a dealer. ?
All I have is my spare key.

Yeah I only had the new unprogrammed one to deal with and followed that above post link. Of course anywhere in those instructions when it says have your secondary transmitter as well....well....I didn't and it still worked.

I finally got around to getting the key cut on this new remote fob...and lo and behold, I cannot program the immobilizer portion with only one working key. Booo....

Anyone have any tips for how to get that portion programmed with only one working key?

Take the car to the dealer, they have to plug their laptop in to program it.
