Does anyone know where I can get a stock head unit? I just like how the face flips around... Also mine has a blow-off-valve that sounds like a dying giraffe.. is it stock or after market or messed up or what??? Does someone make a short shifter that keeps the same height or possibly raise the knob. I guess I just have short arms but i find myself leaning foward for 5th gear. How much power can the stock clutch hold? Can i get one a.m. that keeps the same feel? Lots o' questions but any help would be appriciated. Also any general info I should know before modding or servicing?

I can't answer all your questions, but I can do my best with some!

The stock head units were put in our cars as part of a deal with Kenwood -- hence the entire stock system. Because of that (and someone please correct me if my memory is bad), we got head units that were never released to the public because they weren't really 'up to par' with the rest of Kenwood's stuff. I think I even remember reading that it was all put together by 'tech students' of Kenwood's staff. That's why the head units fail and the stock subs blow. We didn't get the top-notch stuff. So as far as finding one .. I'd say your best bet is looking around on here for a used one. Most likely if you find one, it will be nonfunctional and you'll have to try to fix it.

As far as your blow-off valve (BOV) is concerned, the MSP came stock with a bypass valve (BPV) -- so your BOV is definitely not stock. You can try adjusting it .. or you might need to make some engine changes. The only successful way to run a BOV by itself without stalling is to relocate the MAF to the boosted pipes, or to run a dual setup with both a BOV and a BPV. Do some searching in the MSP engine subforum.

There's several aftermarket short shifters available for the MSP .. even though we already have a 'shorter' shifter in our cars stock, when compared to a regular Protege. There's the B&M, the TWM, and I personally have the Megan Racing. And the short shifters shouldn't change the height of the shifter knob much .. All it does is extend the shifter downward, which is why people generally have to reshape the heat shield that sits right under the shifter to accommodate the lower extension.

The only two aftermarket clutches that I know of are the ACT and the Exedy. I don't have personal experience with either of them, so all I can really give you are the names.

The biggest tip I can give as far as modding is -- do NOT even THINK about turning up your boost until you have the supporting mods. Your engine will go boom very quickly if you do!

More than your internals can handle.

Can i get one a.m. that keeps the same feel?

See my last comment. With the MSP platform, an upgraded clutch should be one of the last things on your list.

Before servicing your MSP yourself, get a shop manual. If you can't afford a shop manual, at least get a Haynes manual.
