Need info on how to find out if a MP5 is a 49 or 50 (CA) state model

I'm new to this site and need pic/info on a Mazda Protege 5. I live in Cali and am planning to buy a 2003 MP5 from a guy in Oregon. Before I make the long journey I have to make sure it's a 50 state model (capable of being registered in California) and not the 49 state model. Can someone tell me where exactly on the car it would be and what it would say? Upload a pic if you can.

Well, it would be best to have it inspected by a California certified tech and probably if you are purchasing it outside cali, you would most likely be screwed
Also, best to post your questions in the correct thread, this area is for a very different car, Mazda 5, not protege 5 (yes, Mazda needs some imagination as it seems they are stuck around 5)
