So after I installed a new FMIC on my MSP I had some stalling problems. No big deal I thought since I had an SS AFC on the way. I can't get the AFC to connect to my computer and my car goes haywire if you press the gas pedal. I'm pretty sure this one is just out of my hands now and I want to take it to a shop to have "professionals" do work on it and get it running again.

I'm down in Lower Alabama but plan on towing the car to Atlanta over Christmas to leave with my family. Does anyone know of a place I could take my car that does reliable work anywhere near Atlanta? I've spent two months trying to get it running and I just can't go without a car anymore. Thanks everybody for the help.

one thing that had me stumped for a lil bit is that usb to serial cable, you have to install the software to use that cable on your car. Also not sure how much you know about the MSP, but what BOV/BPV setup do you have. If you have a BOV that vents all the air and your MAF is in the same place that will cause alot of problems.

as to where to tow it too, no idea maybe make a post in the Georgia thread

ya im gonna go along with fatti with the USB thing, it took me a while to figure out what the heck was going on before i could get it connect. make sure you either have a straight through DB9 Male to female cord (which most computers these days don't have 9pin serial ports) so get the USB to DB9M with the software, and it should say that when you plug in your USB cable it should say "new software or hardware".. bla bla bla, and also i noticed that you should plug it in after your comp. is all started up then make sure its in the right port (can check hardware manager i think its called to see what port it is set to) the SS software is kinda finicky so just keep playing with it and make sure you do all the steps right and it will work..

also i dono if this will help, I'm not 100% sure what things you need to change with a FMIC, but i would make sure you reset your ECU by taking your battery cable off and pumping the breaks and all that junk.. if you haven't heard of it before just do a quick search on like clearing your ECU or something and there should be more explanations on it.. only other things i can think of is that there might be a vac. leak somewhere i know that when my WGA went to hell, and there was a vac. leak there that when i started my car the idle was really bad 1/2 the time and got worse, and when i tried to press the gas pedal it just spazzed out and didn't rev. very much.. it sounded pretty bad lol, but i would just suggest checking a few other things out before you spend the money to get it looked at.. worth a shot if you have the time, and you learn that much more. lol

Ha, yeah clearing the ECU was the first thing that came to mind when it started having problems. Ah, if only it was that simple :)

I'm running the stock BPV setup for now, so I don't think that would be the issue. How would I know if it was something to do with the WGA? Also, my laptop is old enough to have a serial connector. I got the straight through serial cable and couldn't get it to work, so I went and got the serial-to-usb cable and couldn't get that one working either. The software just searches forever to find the connection and finally times out.

hmm, well at least for the WGA, take the line that comes off of the WGA and blow into it, if you can actually blow air into it, then its shot..

um.. as far as the ports.. did you check to make sure which connection port it is hooked up to, im assuming since it actually searches than you did, because if there is nothing hooked up than it just goes really fast and says something like not able to find port or some crap like that.. um.. i guess i would make sure that the software with the cable was installed, and then turn the comp. on, plug in the USB before you connect it to the AFC, once it shows that "new hardware connected or found" in the bottom of your comp. then connect it to the SS AFC and try to connect then, what I had to do one of the times was to start my car up while connecting it, just to get it connected initially then I would turn the car off, and reconnect it if i could.. and make sure that your AFC has power when the key is in the "ACC" position, I think sometimes the power connection to the stock ECU doesn't give enough power to the AFC or something like that.. it was posted somewhere a while ago.. if you have the USB cable which shows when it is connected with like a little light, than you should know that it is actually connecting and the program is just not picking it up or something like that.. thats all i can really think of right now.. it is kinda tricky sometimes getting it to work.. if your really stumped then call the guy at Split Second and he might be able to help with the connection problem.

Checked the wastegate and that's not the problem. I've got to wait for the neighbor to get home in order to jump my car. Even with the battery disconnected it somehow managed to drain with it sitting this long and the duster I'm currently driving doesn't have the power to jump the MSP. I'll try your suggestion for getting the AFC hooked up to the comp when that happens

oh wow, you can't even get it started.... that might be one of your problems if not the problem, at least with the AFC.. I've heard that when you connect to the stock ECU power and ground lines that it sometimes overloads the power or doesn't get enough power that it needs to run, and the way to fix that is to run your power line from the AFC spliced into one of those blue power wires under the steering column, and just ground it separately to one of the bolts around the ECU area.. is your battery old?.. could partially be that.. worth a check i guess?...MSP is like a puzzle lol

u can go to radioshack.com and download the drivers for a usb-serial cord.. doesnt matter what company makes it.. u can get it on there.. and its a free driver.. then it will specify a usb that it needs to be plugged into.. and you should be able o connect.. do u have a boost gauge in the car.. the stalling issue can be a number of things..

where did you wire the power and ground for the split second? was this a new or used unit?

Yep, I've got a boost gauge installed. I tee'ed into the boost gauge line in order to get the vacuum line to the AFC. It's a new AFC unit, and as far as the wiring for the power and ground I just tapped into the power and ground lines on the ECU.

The car starts up, but once it gets gas the whole thing goes haywire with the boost gauge going all over the place and eventually the car stalls out. Yeah, it could be any number of things, and I'm not quite good enough to properly diagnose it myself.

oh well if the boost gauge is all over the place, like when you give it gas, if it doesn't jump to around 0psi or something theres a good chance you have a vac leak, thats what mine did when I had a bad WGA, essentially it was just a vac. leak that caused it
