Need Help w/ Warranty Issue

ouch, that sucks
at least the rod didn't throw threw your block, that would have been damn messy

EVERY car manufacturer makes you keep records of ALL your recipets. It is a given. Why should they have to warranty a motor that never got it's oil changed? They have to protect themselves from people that try to get away with driving the car till it dies.

I do not see how you can blame Mazda for your wrong doing?

wtf his wrong doing??? (stfu)
he didnt keep his recipts for his oil changes, doesnt mean he didnt get the s*** changed. I dont know how this is wrong doing... bad choice of words.

so because you didnt keep your recipts man: your wrong doing and fraudulent hahah.

You don't have to keep recepts. Go tell the manager/ owner that you bought 2 cars from them and planed on buying another until you were s*** on. Tell him it's obvious that you change your oil because it doesn't have a mazda filter on it. I don't see any mods or a sig. Do you have any modifications? That would be another point to bring up, if you don't have any. Then if that doesn't work get on your cell phone and call the other dealer and tell them to come get the car. Then turn around and tell the manager that your gona tell all of your friends in the mazda community (show him the web address) and that he just made a big costly mistake.

I hate dickhead people!

The dealership I'm sure would be more than happy to put a motor in under warranty, as it is money in their pocket. However Mazda REQUIRES documentation to PROVE you have changed your oil. Period. End of Story. If you cannot provide the documentation, then Mazda will deny the claim. Every car manufacturer is the same way. Every Mazda dealership is the same way. It is not the dealer you have to worry about, its the Mazda Rep. that comes and inspects the vehicles for claims like this.

It is his wrong doing if he did not keep recipets. He can only blame himself.

I have thought about this most of the day and this is my take on your situation. I think its Mazda's problem to prove you messed up the motor. If they don't want to do the work, I think it takes more than a non-Mazda oil filter to refuse service. Make them prove to you that you screwed up the motor. I also think it may be wise to get a sample of oil out of that car before they do anything and send it to an oil analysis lab and let them tell you about your oil. To me, they're obviously concerned about your oil since they can't seem to move on beyond the filter. I think it should be on their shoulders to prove you screwed up. If you had documentation that would be a plus, but you're probably like alot of folks and just don't keep receipts. I'm guilty of that. I think with an oil analysis that shows your oil to being within spec you may have a leg to stand on. If you installed an engine management system and you junked your engine, wouldn't they have to prove you were at fault? Maybe its just me but I think that if they want to deny warranty work, they should get past the oil filter. Excuse my ramblings, but I just couldn't get that out of my head without saying something. Jess

jeez... what if I bought the car used and I only have the 1 reciept from the time that I changed the oil. My car is mechanically sound and has been so since I bought it, but I would like to think that if something were to go wrong...

Just to be clear, it's not the oil filter they're worried about. It's the fact that I change my own oil and they want me to prove that I've changed it at least 3 times since I bought the car. The saga still continues so I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

yeah, but I bet they wouldn't have thought once about it if there was an OEM filter slapped on that sucker! I'd tell them, unless they can prove that the damage was done due to lack of oil changes, that it should be covered under warranty.

Yes i just had the same damn problem with my car knocking and running like s*** in my 03 P5 and i didn't have my oil change receipts i had car quest make me some up for cases of oil and then Mazda took care of me then. Talk to any auto part store manager and explain to them what is going on and they should help you ou, like they helped me out. Mazda told me that i spun a bearing because of over reving. which is bull s***, but i have after market parts on my P5 and they were be jerks about that, the replaced the lower half of the motor and it still sound like it ticks some times and it kind of runs like crap at idle....

One more thing i will send you my receipts if you want them they are all current it doesn't matter where you got the oil its just that you had it when it was time to change it the ones i got where like almost a hour from where i lived! The whole stock oil filter thing is bull because they say it holds oil in it so when you start the car it is not dry which will cause problems in the long run, which most every oil filter has anyways unless its a cheap one. But e-mail me @protege503@hotmail.com if want want my oil receipts my name isn't on only what type of car it is ...

Thats actually what I was gona say to do but I was to lazy to write it up.
Go to any lube place and tell the manager you'll give him 30 bucks if he'll make you out a car history. He'll do it.

I still think it's on them to prove it. It may help to tell the owner your past history with his establishment and how you may never buy from him again. If your dealer is like mine, he'll tell you to piss off because he's the only Mazda dealer around and he's proud of it. Good luck with it. Jess

Not only is it obvious he has changed his oil (it has a fram filter on there) can they prove that the oil bent a rod?

If they can't prove the oil was the cause then they have to warranty it.

Oh yeah, and if it is the filter that caused the problem...how would they know that without cutting it open. Ask them to cut it open and check for irregular filtering chacteristics. If the filter is the cause I would be calling fram and letting them know their filter screwed up your engine.

what dealership in illinois was this?

Well, I finally managed to track down the invoices for the oil and filters. I faxed them to the dealership and they've faxed them to Mazda. I should hear later today whether they will warranty the repair. To be continued....

Man, this is like trying to get military clearance to land a 747 in my back yard, or something. Now that I've gotten the invoices and faxed them to the dealership, they've faxed them to Mazda. Now, apparently, Mazda is going to send someone to look at my car and that probably won't happen until Tuesday. This is unbelievable. My car is broken...it's under warranty...you're my dealership...fix the god damn car!!! To be continued....
