Need Help Upper End Rapping

did he have any kind of engine management? these cars usually need more tuning done to be able to run a big turbo without issues.

No he did't, engine managment system was due to be in the followin week. Being his impatient self he smashed it right off. Now we need to figure out what to replace and what performance parts are available for said replacment, also wondering if anyone has the valve replacments information available any neccisary specs, torque specs, advice, etc....

i highly doubt he bent a valve with just a bigger turbo. unfortunatly he probably hammered a wrist pin or rod bearing with detonation from the lack of tuning. 
not entirely sure, noise sounds like it is coming from the top end. However just could be harmonics traveling through the block, not sure, extremely audible sound. Only heard it once not really trying to run it like that, there gonna do a tear down over the next few days. That way we'll find out what it really is. Unfortunetly i wasnt there for the turbo install so i cant say for sure what may of happened, nore was i there on the test run but i can tell ya he took it to WOT with 20PSI boost, off the new turbo. One second there heads were set back in the seats and as soon as they slowed down all they heard was rapping.

as you said harmonics can play tricks on noise location. even with a mechanics stethoscope it can be difficult to locate exactly where noise is coming from untill it's torn down. PLEASE get them to take some pics. I am about to buy a cx-7 and am very curious of how the inards look.
is this a mazda fix or is the guy fixing it on his own? if you guys need any custom parts, i.e. pistons or rods or anything lemme know. I'm authorized distributor for eagle, ross racing, crower, comp, pauter and several others.
