Need help regarding a "squeak" when braking...

I understand the concept of brakes and how they work. Unfortunately, my brakes "squeak" constantly when I'm coming to a complete stop. I notified the Mazda Dealership of this and took it in to be serviced. This is what I was told and the exact text from the service sheet I was given:

"CUSTOMER STATES: MAKING A SQUEAK NOISE

INT UCD
CHECKED BRAKES, FRT BRAKES 9MM, REAR 7MM ALL OK
NO ABNORMAL BRAKE NOISES HEARD"

This service was performed over a week ago. However, this past Saturday they were squeaking to the point where it was almost unbearable. When I asked them if they installed new brakes when I bought the vehicle with 18k on it, they said they replaced them with used but like new condition pads.

Any recommendations on how to eliminate this squeak so that I don't sound like I'm neglecting my vehicle?

I would take it back to the dealer and have them look at it again. If they still don't find anything, try taking a video in the car when it's squeaking to show them. If the tech hears the sound he/she may be able to figure out where it's coming from.

I have the same exact problem on my car. Sounds like a wear indicator but I pulled the wheel and I have plenty of pad left. It's annoying as hell so I know how you feel. Only does it under light to moderate braking. Sucks ass!

If you know how to service your own brakes cut a straight grove in the pad across the pad"hotdog" way. It will make the squeak have a higher frequency not audible to the human ear. If you look at aftermarket pads that are "quite" the pads are separated into sections to raise the frequency of pad vibration out of audible to the ears.

Same thing here too, just as I come to a stop. I have to let up a little and make sure no one knew it was me...pretty embarrassing cuz, yeah, it sounds like a wear indicator that I'm too dumb to fix, but I checked and the pads are fine.

Last time I did my own brake work (when discs were new...I'm old) we always put goo on the back of the pads so they didn't sing. Do people still do that?

Yea, there is still stuff you use on the pads to keep them from resonating.
