For all you guys who know so much about Mazda 3
I just got mine 3 days ago, and I used to drive a 1993 VR6 Golf with 1 2.8 liter engine ! anyways I have done about 250 Kms so far but I have noticed something, as the gear shifts up it changes smoothly (i.e. 1, 2 ,3 ,4) yet when I start slowing down, my display shows that the gear is stuck on the 4th gear ! even when I reach 40Km/Hr and then it switches to 2 or something !! is that normal !? or something is wrong !!
from My experience I know that an RPM should shift up sometime around 3000 turns and shift down when it is less than 1000 turns for each gear disc ! that is of course the automatic gear program concept (and correct me if I a wrong) !

Thanks in advance for any help u can offer !

I noticed that too, but in my previous cars, I didn't have an indicator as to which gear the car was in as it downshifted...

One thing I have noticed is that during the "break-in" period, the car shifted from first to second almost immediately (about 1000-1500 RPMs), but since I've passed the first 600 miles, the transmission now shifts at about 3000-4000 RPMs...guess the car knows when the break-in period is over...

I noticed the same thing with mine so I hope it is normal. But another question along those lines with the auto you can do the manual shifting as well and I was wondering if anyone knows if it is better/worse for the transmission to do this and also if it affects the gas mileage or not?

should have bought a stick then you wouldn't have this issue... lol

the manual shifting in a stick can give you worse gas mileage for sure but if it does give better i wouldn't think it would be much. not sure if you can shift as economicly as the ecu... you sure as hell can shift uneconomicly though lol...

If the wife could drive a stick I would have bought one but since we both needed to drive it I thouhgt this was a good compromise. I'm sure I will be very good at shifting uneconomically but I was hoping if I could make it better on gas mileage LOL

i have the same issue
except the car downshifts from 3 to 1 when coming to a stop.
Sometimes it's really jerky, but its not constant.
I wanted to get a few mods of my car, but I can't now, I don't want to
doing with the "mods void your warranty bs" (I was looking at suspension mods)

I think that if the shift indicator is on, you have the transmission in manual mode, and that may be the reason it doesn't downshift, you need to make it downshift, hope this helps

The shift indicator is on in auto and manual
It is normal for the car to cruise the city at 30 to 0 km/h in fourth, I would think it is for fuel savings, to keep the RPMS low.
I tried both the stick and letting the computer shift for me, and I never really saw a difference when I was trying to be good.

off topic but quick question....anyone that owns a MANUAL 3 hopefully you can help. When i first start to drive and the engine isnt warmed up yet, there is hesitation up until 3000-3500 rpms...after 3000rpms or so i feel the car kinda kick (like im stepping on the gas harder). After the car warms up tho it doesnt happen. I had the car in the dealership a couple weeks ago for a solenoid problem.."everything was fixed". Do you think this could be the problem and does anyone elses car do the same thing? (confused)
