the engine number (8th digit in the VIN) I know the speeds are 7 or 8 but what is the number for a standard shift protg that the engine will work as a donor for my car?

is it 5 or 6? and would it matter if the car was an automatic? it my manual trans should bolt up to it correct?

Any 2.0 protege motor will work, same motor same transmissions

yea I realize the 2.0 is the same, block wise, but the head doesn't it have to be from an 01 or newer to have the same ignition source (as far as distributorless) and i'm calling around and everyone wants to know the engine vin (8th digit in the VIN) and the speeds are 7 or 8 VIN....so 5 or 6 VIN is what I need right? my problem lies in that I need a whole engine from oil pan to valve cover (mine broke a valve and destroyed the #3 piston and wall) so I can't use my head or block

car-part.com doesnt require vins. 2001+ are all good. auto or manual.
