I have been looking for some new wheels some time know and finally I have found 2 designs. My CX5 is all matte black. Need help to choose which one to go for. No1 would be 20" 275/40 Nitto Invos and No2 would be 19" with 255/50 Grabber ATs. Different styles, different tyres. Please give me your opinion.

The choice of style is entirely personal. But, whatever you choose, make sure they are not too heavy. Increasing the wheel weight will make the vehicle slower to accelerate and it doesn't take very much for it to be noticeable.

You have a Diesel version whose extra torque will mask this somewhat in every day driving but who wants to spend a bunch of money to replace perfectly good OEM wheels with wheels that are heavier (or not as strong)?

Check the specs carefully before you buy.

Thanks

Nice of you being concerned about my mpg! Yes, extra weight would be more expensive. Especially here in Sweden, diesel is about 15 Kronor a liter! On the other hand, I'm all about the look ;). Extra tourqe will also take care of the decrase in power when I get the engine properly tuned next month. So, which wheel?

For the first wheel style you posted I would consider this TSW Nurburgring its is similar style and they are lightweight wheels (23lb for 20x8.5, compared to ~ 28 lb for stock 19").

I can imagine No. 2 would work well with an air bag suspension system. Otherwise, No. 1 would look fine either lowered or not. And as MikeM. says, weight will be a big factor in both handling and fuel efficiency. Looks like the tires are wider too, that may increase grip at expense of fuel efficiency. You might consider trading the price of a tune for more money into better (forged) wheels. That will preserve your warranty and you may still get better performance to a CX-5 with OEM wheels.

Good luck!

Yes lowered.

The TSWs are a good suggestion! I was actually looking for some 17 or 18 inch black modular steel rim but couldn't fine any with the right specs. They would have been a lot heavier but I really like the rough look, thought maybe no 2 gives some of that raw style look?

The tune comes with an extended warranty that covers engine failure etc.

Anyone tried tires from Nitto? Are they worth the money? Need to import them as there are no stockists in Sweden.

Again, thanks for all the input!

Someone else on here was running nitos and didn't say anyhting negative about them; Personally I am happy with Toyo Proxess, good pricing too.

Definitly number 1, number 2 is a ATS look-a-like wheel and a 1970 model, but nice and very heavy !! I had that wheel on a Opel Ascona in 1981 !!

P.s. @Chris, do you know the weight of a 245/45/20 tyre ?? (The Oxxo Carpo 20 inch is equal weight as a OEM 19 inch)

@Mazdasweed : Do you know the Oxxo Carpo Matte Black ? It`s a swedisch wheel !!

weight will vary by brand and construction method of tire.. for example my toyo is ~32 lb https://www.amazon.com/dp/ (commissions earned) oem a23 19" tire is 28 lb. You just have to see what is available ot you, and what you are willing to pay, for example a firestone firehawk tire is 28lb but costs more http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Firestone&tireModel=Firehawk+GT&partnum=445VR0FHGT I got a really good price on my tires, but when I need to replace them again I will look for a lighter tire.

Found this picture not sure of size. But your two choices I pick the number one the mesh design always looks great but that is that is the only two choices would really need to see on the vehicle to decide.. Good luck.

Also cannot tell if these are similar.

Hmm . that white cx 5 is nice but the rims are wayy to big. on the other hand the black cx 5 with the black rims has the best looks.

The wheels on the white CX-5 are definitly 22 inch wheels. In my opinion they are too big for the car....it`s overdone......It`s look like they are Stance wheels or Vossen.............

but when I need to replace them again I will look for a lighter tire.

The weight-difference between tires is not much (if you go out for the same type measure) f.e. 245/45/20 tire : they fast are all tires 13 kg or 28.6 Lb.........

I'm a fan of Motegi rims, if I had the money I'd get the ones below. However, I really like the stock 19"s, maybe when the tires need replacing I'll get them or something similar.

Motegi? Really nice. Whats the price for a setup of them?

These are sold at Pepboys no?

The model in the image is MR127. I couldn't find a local dealer who carries them so I'm not sure of the price.

I did find something similar locally, the Motegi SP10 and the 18" version is $205 CDN per rim.
