Hi.

Just wanted so seek oppinion on what is the best tire replacement for stock rims, should I stick with the standard 195/50/R16 or move to a wider tire 205/50/R16 ?

The selection on 195 is quite narrow and most of them on really soft compound, so I was looking on 205 but wanted to know if somebody out here has had good/bad experiences with handling and ride when going to 205's

Thanks and best regards to all.

I put 205's on my stock rims, because it is virtually impossible to find the 195's in stock. I have been happy with the 205's, the extra rubber softens the bumps and cornering feels about the same.

I have been running 205/50's on my stock rims for over a year. They work fine, and you will have zero problems. There are many more tire choices in this size.

I've been running 205/50's since October with no problems. Definitely more to choose from. You may also want to look at 205/45/16 as well.

If price doesn't matter, I would suggest the Toyo Proxes TPT's in the stock size. They were on my car when I bought it and I loved them! However I didn't want to drop over $100 a tire when it came time to replace them.

These came with my car, nearly new condition. I can't help but feel like they're awful... Easy to spin, noisy on sharp corners...I dunno. If money is no object I'd go with something like a Michelin Hydroedge or something (if it comes in that size.)

Personally I run separate winter and summer tires, I wouldn't buy anything all season...

You can get Toyo Proxes4, Kumho Ecsta ASX, or Falken Ziex 912s in 195/50...all very decent all-season tires at reasonable prices that will last 35K+ miles. Try performanceplustire.com.

I bought the Hankook Ventus 205/45/16 for about $450 installed at Pep Boys. They come with a 50,000 mile warranty which goes a long way since most of these kinds of tires either don't have a warranty or only last to 35k. I've been really happy with them. Less road noise than my stock Dunlops but I do feel the road a bit more.

I'm running bridgetone potenza 205/50/r16 on my stockers for winter weather. expensive tire, but they are amazing in wet and snow.

A few guys run Dunlop Direzzas at 215/45/16 and report no rubbing, so if you were thinking about a summer tire, that might work for you. It will give you even MORE grip. I have 205s and there are a ton of tires to choose from in that size. BTW, don't get hydroedges, they're a great tire for your Taurus, but go with a high or ultra high performance all season if you are going to go all season. Check out tirerack.com.

im running falken fk-452 205/50-16 something like 450 installed at discount tire. great UHP summer tire. just wish it was available in a 45 series

I run stock size, Kuhmo Ecsta ASX in the summer, Dunlop Graspic DS-2 in the winter. Both very affordable tires that have treated me well over the last 3 years.

im running dunlop direzzas in size 215/45ZR16 on my stockers for a month now and they are incredibly great :D
