Need help asap...Turbo XS Hybrid blow off valve!!

I had my dad get in and rev it up with different washer settings after putting wheel bearing grease on the piston. Did 4, and there was quite a bit of flutter and then tried 2, less flutter, but still there. It is not making that distinct PSSST noise when it blows off. I watched the piston when he revved it up, and it would blow off and then the piston would like bounce up and down/fluttered up and down. So then I tried it with 1 washer, and this time, when he let off, the piston stayed open for a split second and actually made the psst noise. But aren't I supposed to be running more than 1 washer for good performance? Isn't the less washers, the less boost I am pushing? Where is the problem here? This is bothering me cause everyone i've talked to is doing between 2 and 4, and with both setups, i get alot of flutter and I have to run 1 to not get that flutter. I don't understand why the piston opens to blow off but bounces/fluctuates up and down causing the fluttering noise. Anyone please help me!?

I've been using my TurboXS hybrid for over a year and it works perfectly. I'm using all 6 washers. I don't think revving the car at idle is really going to prove that the BOV is 100% working or not working. You are not really creating boost pressure in that situation which is probably why you only got the piston to really open up when you went all the way down to one washer. I know a poor vacuum source will cause any BOV to operate poorly. It sounds like you already checked your vacuum line. Are you sure there is no dirt or debris stuck in the vacuum line tubing? One other potential problem.... there have been defective batches of these BOVs from TurboXS where the piston rubs/sticks to the metal housing. I know this for a fact because I originally had the full recirc TurboXS version and it did get stuck wide open. I exchanged it for the hybrid version and have not had any problems since that time. If your piston is rubbing it is going to cause poor performance regardless of the spring or pressure source.

well I put lube on the piston so its not sticking or anything. When revved up with 1 washer...it would open like its supposed to. When having 2 or 4, revved up, it would open and then like bounce kinda like a basketball up and down (if that makes sense, don't know how else to explain it). So how exactly can I tell what kind of washer set up I need to run then? I haven't really notice the car peforming different with the different washers on it...and I was told the more washers you add, the more flutter you get. Which makes sense because more washers=more stiffness=harder to open=compressor surge. The thing that sucks for me, I bought it used and he only included 2 washers with it, so to add washers I have to go buy more. I've already bought 2 which upped it to 4 total, and it seemed like it made the car flutter more. So if I bought 2 more, that would make 6 and seems like it would flutter EVEN more. Only thing I can think of, mine has the bigger/stiffer spring in it and doesn't require as many washers. I am putting on the downpipe today, so maybe that will increase air flow enough to where I can add washers to it, but hell I don't know. maybe I have a leak somewhere, but then again, my boost gauge is showing full boost like it should. This is so confusing.

ok first thing first. this bov is a hybrid which means when given the most power while driving at high rpm's it should recirculate into the intake. and while low to moderate power given to the car the bov should shoot air atmospherically (sometimes i get a flutter at low boost/rpm's. with that said when i rev my engine up while parked just sitting in my car with 5 washers i just get a loud push of air that shot up my wife's dress the first time i showed her..lol. now the next thing i want to ask is i hope the bov is on tight enough which im sure it is.and make sure the clamp on that little hose is on there tight. to be honest for me putting 1 washer in i get way too much play in the spring and i get too much flutter.. if i were you i would try putting atleast 6 washers in and see what happens. its not gonna mess anything up. the most i had in my trying to tune it the first time i got it was 10 washers which was way too much.

Ok, so I put on 4 washers today and took her out (i got my turbo xs downpipe put on last night), and while the car was very responsive, the 4 washers seemed like it was taking a bit longer for the car to spool up, so I put it back to 2 washers for now. The sound seems like its normal now, no more compressor surge type sound like it was when I first put it on.

been bitchin about sound since I got it yet im getting ready to put on the medieval turbo inlet and lose all that sound, haha. oh well!

well mm boost since you and i have something in common maybe you can help me. if you have a boost gauge maybe you can help me figure out the problem i am having if any at all. my car (speed6) seems to be boosting peak at 15.6 to 16 lbs of boost before dropping off and holding around 13. a lot of people seem to say that there cars can get up to 17 or 18 lbs and hold at 15 or 16. so where does your car stand with this issue? i posted in the speed 6 section and didnt get much help so maybe i can find some here. maybe the issue i am having is people having different boost gauges and mine maybe being crappy. i have a prosport boost gauge. also have this hybrid bov and an aem cold air intake. if anyone else can help me please do so

I have the injen cai and autometer mechanical boost gauge. on mine, yesterday in 5th gear, I noticed I got a 19 psi spike and settled around 16-ish. in 3rd I was settling a hair over 15, so I am guessing 15.6 is about right. I haven't had the problem of it dipping down to 13 tho. It is weird, mine is holding the boost fine it seems, its just not making the sound I prefer. ahhhhhhhhh! But of course that is probably the ricer in me, I just like the sound of a nice pssst blow off valve. I will probably end up selling this one and getting an HKS, I am a blow off valve *****, what can I say :)

all of this again? I thought you sold the greddy rs for a forge, but you got a 50/50 txs??? Maybe I read your other threads wrong but I thought you got the forge.

I too am curious to hear what the 50/50 sounds like in person as well as the HKS in person to see what gives the better sound I would like. Sucks having to buy all of these only to get dissappointed and wasting money.

yeah I know man...I HATED the forge, I was embarassed to drive the car around with it on. So I sold it, got this txs from lestat, but it didn't work right, so he is letting me trade it back in for that HKS (he's already shipped it, just waiting on it to arrive). I like the HKS because its non-adjustable, I am sick of having to mess with springs and shims and screws getting it right, with this I just bolt on and go.

wtf. he sold you a valve and was willing to take it back and ship an hks??? How much is that HKS costing you? Im interested in trying one of those

I had to pay an additional $50 and I have to send the turbo xs back, so it still works out the same way.

sounds like what happened to me, I messed with the bov so much I completely screwed it up. Bought a brand new one a couple days later and problem solved! Hate to say it but it might just be the bov. That was my issue anyways. The dam thing wouldnt open
