Need clutch advice ASAP!

Maybe, but it is not as the CIA likes to say "its a slam dunk". They are harder to break in and sometimes they fail within a few hundred miles. Do not buy a clutch to handle 500 hp if you are only going to make 250. The trade offs are not worth it.

LOL...CIA.

The Act Street Clutch is only good for 300 hp, I think that's what they told me.

I heard Excedy was the ones who made the stock MSP clutch for Mazda...

Anybody know more about this?

Daikin Clutch is stamped on the stock msp pressure plate. They make a many of the OEM clutches. They are a subsidiary of Exedy. I have the only Exedy for the MSP right now cuz I was the test vehicle used for it. You can get em from me when they're released.

I have a spec stage 3 hybrid as well, and i love it, its got a fairly soft pedal feel like stock, and it doesn't chatter, or slip. It holds and holds hard when i've launched with it.

I ment the whole clutch kit from Mazda not just the clutch plate. How many miles did the stock clutch last you? Why did it suck for you?

I had 46000 miles on it. I'm pretty good on the clutch, but it chattered a lot and I never liked the engagment. It wasn't as linear as I would like.

Yep, that's why I opted for the slightly upgraded street setup. I have heard it is a nice smooth engagement.

Oh, and for the people that said that Exedy doesn't make discs for ACT anymore, I openned the box yesterday and it was an Exedy disc. I was relieved, that's for sure. The date on it was 10/28/05.

I kindof mislead you... exedy still manufacters them, however, their manufacturing plant, and process has completly changed...

Well, I the clutch wasn't the problem (like a lot of you said). I was hoping it wouldn't come to this, but now I have to tow it BACK to the dealer. This is starting to piss me off.

OH MAN! That sucks.

Well, I had to call the dealer today (since they didn't bother to call me) and they said that they still think it's the clutch and that I need to authorize $850 worth of labor to look into it further. I explained to them that I had the clutch replaced, and that the stock clutch disc, pressure plate, and pilot bearing are in a box in the back seat. I tried to talk directly to the tech since the service writers had no idea what I was talking about, but they don't let techs talk directly to customers. They said that they think it's the clutch spline (which it's not; I saw it first hand and it's immaculate). I understand that they have to check everything and cover their ass, but they are making it as difficult as possible.

I tried to explain to them about the known problem with the LSD and that I have all kinds of info on them and how they fail. When I suggested that they check the limited slip differential, the Service Director said "you mean the rear end?"

So I said "No, front wheel drive cars don't have a 'rear end'. I'm talking about the limited slip differential that comes standard on all MazdaSpeed Proteges."

The service writers are the only people who have been even somewhat simpathetic to my situation. The sevice director doesn't know the first thing about cars. To top it all off, I can't get a loaner car from them until they determine that it's a warranty issue. You would think that they would put some priorety on my car after all the s*** they have put me through already, but no.

I am ready to pop. So much for a merry Christmas.

WOW!

I would just get a loaner from them anyway, as you know it's the issue at hand. They can just absorb the cost of it once they find out they are retarded.

You must be getting to the point of raiseing hell soon.

Can you go up to the dealership and then talk with the tech, that's what I always do when I am in for service.

The BBB can be a very useful tool when dealing with dealer TOOLS.

Yeah, I have had many people suggest that. I will use them if need be, but I'd like to give them a chance to right it first. I will wait and see how they handle it first.

When my clutch went out they started on the work and then called me to tell me that the lsd was ****** which led me to believe that the lsd on my car could've caused the teeth to be stripped cleen off... but they warrantied the lsd so basically i got a brand new clutch and lsd for the labor and cost of just the clutch but the bill still came to $907. The whole ordeal was rediculous, the damn clutch only had 17k miles on it.... now im on my second stock msp clutch and it only has about 14k or so on it and its slipping so im just getting a ******* spec stage2... as far as im concerned... the stock clutch is for somewhat easy driving maybe alittle fun but thats it.... i will never go with a stock clutch again... you should go up to the service director and knock his ass out just for being so ******* stupid... rear end? what a ******* dumbass... hes prolly one of those dumb morons that is under the impression that if it doesn't have a ******* V8 in it its slow..... ok i'm done
