3/6/10 - UPDATE - Thanks to everyone for your help in this matter, i've decided to just buy a stocker for the right side and throw it in and call it good

i did find a set of black housing ones for a decent price (for a protege 5 that is...) just in case anyone else wants to buy them for their 5 i'll post the links below.

I know they show the sedan headlight but they say it will fit the 5 so i'll take their word for it

Andy's Auto Sport - P5 Black housing headlights - $233.00 + S/H

well you have no chance then, unless you paint your existing lenses...

well one of them is completely destroyed and reconstructed with tape, thats why i need to buy at least one, and frankly stock looks gay IMO plus on egay they want like 160 freaking dollars for ONE stock headlight yet all other protege models except the 5 have 150 dollar sets, brand new, black casing and anything

so i know for a fact they will fit but i know that there is only one slot for a bulb because all other proteges have high and low beam in one spot, i could care less about high beams, do you know if i bought those if i could just throw in my stock bulbs, plug it in and be good? (shrug) minus high beam of course

If you get sedan headlights all you have to do is change out your HID bulbs to H4. ($40 usually) Everything else gets relocated.

True but there is a little more to it. Since the OP will have to use the H4 (hi-lo) bulb he will have to do some re-wiring.

There is a how-to somewhere.

I though you would just have to change out the bulbs. He would only be able to use the lows right?

Good question as I'm not sure. I can see where you would think that simply plugging in an H4 bulb would give you lo beams with no highs but to the best of my knowledge the re-wiring would be needed for both. Everyone that I know of that has done the swap to sedan lights has done the re-wiring.

just did a jdm sedan converson on my p5 and it is not plug and play u do have to rewire the lights because the original is a two wire low beam and the new h4 bulb is a three wire setup

i absolutely HATE this car.....

here's the thing, i'm definately not going to change my bulbs to h4's thats for sure.

so basically i have to spend a **** ton on one stupid gay stock headlight or spend a **** ton on two new ones...great

1 - Check scrap yards. The OEM P5 light is pretty rare, as they didn't make a s***-TON of them.

2 - The re-wiring is pretty easy.

3 - Don't hate the car because you or someone broke the headlight. It's not the cars fault.

Replacements are about $200.00 each for OEM style...Throwing some cheap crap on there to sell it is pretty shady anyway...

Good luck with the sale...(thumb)

the lights are still overpriced i must say. i still need to open mine up to black house them and de-oxidize the lens but im lazy.

op good luck. i felt the same way when it came to my accord

talk to djdub he gota pair of those depo Protege5 blacked out headlights on ebay.

i have the wiring for this been pretty busy so i will try to get this on here in the next few days i have the diagram at home

i hate the car for reasons such as in the first 3 months i owned the car all belts broke, radiator cap sheared in half, clutch master cylinder went out, parts are difficult to find for it and are expensive because they didn't make much of them, all belts have broken, the car mysteriously eats oil (no smoke, no leaks, nothing, just disappears....) the clutch on the compressor is fried because the electrical switch inside is messed up and it has turned the comp on a BILLION times when not needed or in heat mode or it couldn't stay fully on when it was running and eventually messed it up. i KNOW a new compressor plus climate control is probably gonna cost a fortune to get, and be lucky to find one. they are NEVER at the junkyards, and yes as stated before the stuff for them is usually way overpriced, for example: headlights, roof rack block off plates

oh and even with full intake header and exhaust the car is still really slow, i dont know why they made this thing DOHC with no valve timing (braindead)

i had great experience with my friends p5 but his had way less miles, and thats the reason why i picked mine up, but i've had NOTHING but problems with this car since i got it, and then some ass hole comes and smashes my s*** and gives me a whole new expensive problem that shouldn't BE expensive!

as far as throwing some cheap crap on the car to sell it goes, i really do not care, cause i've been screwed by SO MANY people with buying cars that i learned no one else cares EITHER. cheap or not if it works and doesn't mess up they will never know and/or care typically. i've had people lie to me and say one thing, and then two weeks later my engine is leaking from the HEAD, the VC, the distributor seal, the crank seal, oil line, oil pan, literally EVERYWHERE that oil can leak from, so i could care less at all about throwing some black casing headlights on there and saying they are "jdm" to get it sold, life hasn't been very nice to me and my wife in the past year and a half so i gotta do what i can to get my s*** handled

i've decided i'm just gonna buy one stock headlight (chrome housing...lame) and put it in and be done with it, i need to get this bad boy up and pretty again.
1. cause it looks like s***
2. so i can hurry up and sell it and buy a minimum of 200hp +200tq nissan maxima with all the bells and whistles and hopefully...leather interior :)

hey appreciate you and everyones help, i've decided to just buy a stocker and throw it in and say **** it, i need it gone asap

so just as an idea so that people will be able to find it easily, perhaps you should post it in a new thread that way it can get stickied and people wont have to search through all my crap to find it for future reference

i hate the car for reasons such as in the first 3 months i owned the car all belts broke

Belts cost $10 each and take 30 min. to replace. Not difficult at all

radiator cap sheared in half

A new radiator cap costs $10 and takes 10 seconds to replace

parts are difficult to find for it and are expensive because they didn't make much of them

Have you tried checking RockAuto.com? You can use 99% of the parts from a Protege sedan, since they are more or less the same car.

the car mysteriously eats oil (no smoke, no leaks, nothing, just disappears....)

Every car does this to some extent. Just do a quick compression test and use a tracer dye to find the leak.

the clutch on the compressor is fried because the electrical switch inside is messed up and it has turned the comp on a BILLION times when not needed or in heat mode or it couldn't stay fully on when it was running and eventually messed it up. i KNOW a new compressor plus climate control is probably gonna cost a fortune to get, and be lucky to find one. they are NEVER at the junkyards

RockAuto.com has a reman compressor for $385. Not exactly cheap, but cheaper than a new car, and similarly priced with other "non-rare" cars.

oh and even with full intake header and exhaust the car is still really slow, i dont know why they made this thing DOHC with no valve timing (braindead)

What did you expect when you bought a P5?

as far as throwing some cheap crap on the car to sell it goes, i really do not care, cause i've been screwed by SO MANY people with buying cars that i learned no one else cares EITHER. cheap or not if it works and doesn't mess up they will never know and/or care typically. i've had people lie to me and say one thing, and then two weeks later my engine is leaking from the HEAD, the VC, the distributor seal, the crank seal, oil line, oil pan, literally EVERYWHERE that oil can leak from, so i could care less at all about throwing some black casing headlights on there and saying they are "jdm" to get it sold, life hasn't been very nice to me and my wife in the past year and a half so i gotta do what i can to get my s*** handled

So just because others have screwed you over, you take that as an excuse to screw others over?

I'm sorry, but this last post of yours really kind of rubbed me the wrong way. You're giving up too easily on this car, when in reality you're just being faced with a lot of little problems that are pretty easy to fix. On top of that, you're using it as justification for fixing your car up half-assed, and then dumping it on some other unsuspecting schmuck.

Do you really think that you're not gonna spend thousands more on a Nissan Maxima than you would fixing up your P5? I bet you could get 95% of these repairs done for under $1000 (yes, even with brand new OEM lights).

And what happens when your Nissan Maxima starts having problems? All cars cost a fair chunk of change to repair and maintain - that just goes along with having any vehicle older than a few years.
