not to sound like an idiot but I need some questions anwsered. 1.whats the diff between a race-test pipe and down pipe, 2. do these cuase the turbo smoking issues, 3. can I just cut out the second cat and replace with 21/2 inch pipe at a muffler shop, 4.with this cuase a cel, thanks for any awnsers in advance (shrug)

I will try to help you as much as I can...I am still a ms3 noob, but I am no stranger to turbocharged cars. Please anyone correct me if I cam wrong.

The downpipe is the pipe that goes from the exhaust housing of your turbo to your 'cat pipe'. The 'cat pipe' is a short pipe that contains that catalytic converter and connects to the catback exhaust.

a test-pipe is a cat pipe replacement that is just a straight pipe with no cat in it.

Therefore, if you did a catless downpipe, a race pipe, and a catback exhaust you would be running completely catless. Running without a cat will cause you exhaust gas to be 'smokier' and smellier, not to mention you can get in legal trouble if caught running that way.

does that sound about right?

thanks! yeah I was thinking if i cut out a second cat for 40 bucks so I can still get inspected, ive already cut out the 3 mufllers and it sounds great!! for just 100bucks. I was looking for a little extra power on the cheap before i get it tuned. Later when i'm rich i'll by the expensive stuff.

Yeah, I've seen a few people do that. Seems like a decent/cheaper way about it. Only disadvantage is you obviously can't put the old cat back on (unless you go back to muffler shop), but that may not matter to you.

or I could have the 2nd cat hollowed out like laloosh then it would still look stock. If i did get the downpipe etc. there is a rumor that this is the cuase of the trubo smoking issue? is that true?

No, don't understand where you go that rumor. The smoking is due to the cheap turbo seals melting away. Once you start to modify your exhuast or swap it out as I have with the 3", you are just going to see it a little more than usual.

Although every since Mazda swapped out my turbo I haven't had the issue as of yet.

yeah its just been rumored that the larger downpipe is cuaseing the seals to melt. wich i agree with you they shouldn't melt anyway....cheap seals
