I have a small technical difficulty that hopefully someoen can shed some light on.

Here's the situation. On a cold winter morning, I would like to be able to start my car in my driveway, then run back inside my house for 5 minutes while it warms up. The problem is that the car won't let me lock the doors while the drivers door is open, and it won't let me use the transmitter to lock the doors while the car is running!

I know this was designed as a sefety feature so that I won't accidentally lock my keys in my, however, I am willing to take the risk.

is there anyway to do this without buying a remote car starter?

How are you going to open it once it's closed and running? With the spare key?
Ideally I would open it with the remote transmitter!!!
but that doesn't work.. Wish it did!!

I am now on a hunt for a cheap spare key, one without the chip so it would only open the doors and not start the car!

I still want to keep my official spare key safe inside my house for an emergency situation!

Lock the door with your hand as you get out instead of with the transmitter.
Can't.
If you try to lock the door manually while the drivers door is open and car is running, it will kickback and unlock ALL of the doors.

i think you're gonna' have to get a remote start...

get remote start you'll love it. I install them daily

What does a decent quality remote starter cost these days?
with a bypass module for the ignition
For a 5 spd?

Till I can afford a remote starter...

I went to the dealer today and had them cut me a regular key (no chip) so it will only work in the doors.

So now I can at least let the car warm up while locked!

Total cost was $6.33 to have the key cut from the VIN.

remote start

a basic remote start installed properly with no crimps connects normally runs about $500 at my shop with key bypass and neutral safety switch. But....
I recomend the paging systems by valet 554 or autopage 855.
check it out its worth it.

Use a second key or your second remote to lock your doors. Nice and easy, or just sit in your car if you are worried about it being unlocked.(hump) Your car did come with two keys and two remotes. wink wink

The remotes do not work at all while the car is running.

I'll probably end up buying a good 2 way alarm/starter before this winter!!
