now i have better response with the acceleration, but my car turns right off when i start it up, about 2-3 times in a row..... and it almost stalls when its running idle most of the time....the mechanic told me its probably the idle air control sensor....can anyone conjure up any other speculations? or is he right, in my logic i think it only makes sense

is it at cold start or all the time?
1-check your vac..lines.
2-clean EGR.
3-you might be running rich...(not as in money)...but the again, your acceleration would not be as peppy....

oh btw, skullcandy, do you know how to operate an apexi AFC? i have one installed in my car and have no idea how to operate it, and i cant understand the online manual.

i dont think it's running rich, and the car was just seafoamed before i had the oil leaks fixed up and the oil changed :)

it was running rich before the MAF was changed because you could smell the gas and i could see it going down!

but now its just that idle issue...

If there's nothing else different with the car and it's stalling, then it isn't. I had similar problems with my piggyback when we first installed it.

Disconnect the APEXi, run it for a while, if the idle problem goes away, then it's the APEXi.

You'll probably need to get an O2 clamp to prevent the ECU from adjusting to whatever adjustments you've made with the unit, otherwise, you'll have to remove all fuel adjustments below 3/4 throttle under 3000 rpm or thereabouts, in the open-loop tuning section.

hmm i guess i'll have them disconnect it.

i personally never installed the unit or messed with it, so no adjustments were made on my part.

i know at one point the car did have turbo on it.

I 'think' you may have to re-flash the ECU after the APEXi...

Unless the previous owner can prove the car ran fine with it and now is cutting off...

Let us know.

the car did run fine before, i started having these issues after i hit a few bad puddles, my rear engine mount is broken, idk if that is effecting anything, and im using mobil one full sytnh, 15-50, is that too thick? im burning alot of oil

Could be a damaged sensor... could be torn wiring... heck... could be anything... could be some vacuum line was torn loose because of the vibration from the mount.

i was reading up on some other threads....my EGR might be dirty as hell...same with the idle control, so ima take them apart and clean it, hopefully it does the trick for the rough idle and stalling.
