For those of you who opted to get the nav system, as we will be, what do you think? Like it? worth the dough? Can you talk to it? ie "what's the nearest McD's?"

If you get the Navigation system you are just prooving to yourself that you are really really lazy (fuoops) J/K. I think it's a big waste of money, use that extra cash on mods, I would start with the suspension. Also dont get an auto tranny, trust me.

Welcome to the forums!

well.. obviously.. anyone who asks "what's the nearest McD's?" is lazy (rofl)

but on a serious note - i don't think it's voice activated but it talks to you :D

oh look.. a quick google search for "mazda3 navi" yields this page

It does talk to you.

However, I can never hear the lady. Which is really fine with me - I rarely use the thing and can watch the screen when I do.

I like the way it stacks the next couple of steps of directions if they're close, and zooms in at the appropriate times.

I don't like how it's worked at about a 50% success rate. It couldn't find a golf course that opened I think two years ago here. When I tried to program it to find the nearest gas station as I was on E in a small town outside of Omaha, it found one...but in directing me there, at a point, would suddenly change directions and would want me to travel on a road that didn't exist. Granted, it was a small town...

It's OK but I wouldn't have chosen to add it (the other option was wait ~3 months to get my car).

i love my navi system, ive used it on several road long road trips and found it very usefull. i jus typed in the address and it took me right there. also in the city if i get turned around or make a wrong turn i can just look at it and see what other roads i can take. i was suprised to see how exact it was, like if im goin under an overpass it will show me at that point at exactly the right time. over all i like it, plusit was rolled into my monthly payments so its not like i had to come up with the $1500 outta pocket.

The maps on the nav are outdated.... at least 4 years outdated.

There is supposed to be a new disk with updated maps coming out soon. call the dealer for more infomation.

Yeah - from what I could tell in the documentation, you had to contact the maker of the NAV discs yourself to get the updates. I haven't checked on their website yet though, since I don't usually think about it/rarely use it.

post-note

Well, I picked up my car and in one day learned most of the features of the nav system and it is GREAT! Look in th manual and it'll show you how to best use it. turn on the voice in the menu feature and select voice volume and adjust it no an audible tone 0-5. They come set to 0 which is why you couldn't hear her. I will never be lost again!

Thanks - I read the manual originally, but obviously didn't retain everything :)

I thought I remembered reading in the manual that voice prompting on routing to a specific destination can't be turned off - and I was always kind of confused by this, what with the voice button. It's not a big deal either way, but if it was my choice, I'd have the lady stay quiet & stop interrupting my music. (Might be different if she had a sexier voice)

I'll have to dig back in the book when I can... :)
