NA Tech Race to 100whp per 1000cc's

I need to get my new head on the car and dyno tune it to see how much farther I have to go for this. I have some ideas, but not the money to do it right now... lol. I'm kinda wishing I would have gone higher compression than I did at this point...

oh... nothings wrong with RB!! i was saying getting rid of my exhaust... the one i have on my P5... sorry for the misunderstandment

Ok i have a stock 2004 mazda 3 does anybody know what steps i should take to get to 200hp from price ranges from low-high

bolt ons first... get an exhaust system (header back, probably custom header) which will support that power in the long run. Tunnel ram inake manifold, and some form of engine management...

Internally i don't know that engine very well, but essentially you need to make it rev, run higher compression, and flow more air... so rods, pistons, head work, custom cams should be on the list....
;)

I hear the F gearbox in the 1.8 is weaker than the G in the 2.0. Presumably they are lighter and require less power to drive, giving a slight advantage on the dyno in terms of whp/liter?

my friend just crashed her 626... is it possible to use any of her stuff? its stock... i was thinking i could use the intake manifold

theres lots you could use

you've basically got yourself a stock block there that you can build if you so desire....

manifold should work

etc.

the manifold doesnt have the vtcs right? is there any other differences? from the 626 to the P5?

i'll call her about the block

626 mani is a single runner...no vtcs, no vics.... it'll likely destroy your bottom end, but should breathe quite a bit better up top and yield a decent gain overall...

Why would that destroy the bottom end. I was looking at maybe getting the single runner intake mani from PG. Would it pretty much be the same thing getting a 626 mani from a junkyard?

Why did mazda go away from using that and start using the VICS & VTCS?

It destroys your bottom end because it doesn't have the VICS which are flaps the open at a certain speed I believe. So if you don't have those it affects the back pressure while excelerating

This may be a stupid question but what kind of engine is a FE3's(never heard of them)? And what models do they come in? Lordworm mentioned it in the rules on the first page. Are they more powerfull than are FS DE's? And will they fit in a P5?

fe3 is a 2.0L it only came to the us market in the kia sportage

kind of sort of....

BASICALLY the VICS is a half assed attempt at a duel runner intake manifold...and more or less provides variable intake runner geometry meaning it can be tuned for both bottom end and top end...it doesn't do this whole thing very well, but it does work to a degree

a single runner manifold is "tuned" to a specific rev range, i've posted the formula's for working this out else where.....and the 626 manifold appears to be tuned for upper mid range/top end, sacrificing bottom end in the process.

wikipedia ftw!! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda_FE-DOHC_engine hehe what i've heard and read here on the forums, the fe3 is considered to be like a sr20. this engine is supposedly boost happy and can handle alot of beating too. as for N/A applications, these things were kinda like monsters from the factory(170hp stock?) haha the msp that had a turbo came 170hp stock right? amazing yea

o yea heres another site i found interesting xD http://members.aol.com/solomiata/FE3info.html

yes, they are monsters...

From what i've heard, i'd be rating the FE3 up as one of the best piston motors mazda ever developed (right up there with the KLZE)

Not sure how the kia versions go vs a genuine mazda version - but good luck finding a genuine mazda FE3 .... rare as....

Pssst.... 5th gear swap... higher top speed!

Oh... crap... you're an A/T... oh well... brain blast! Manual Tranny swap! (smoke)

+1 on the extra block thing, bolts straight up... my friend used a secondhand 626 to replace a block he aerated with the #4 conrod on the track.
