NA Tech Race to 100whp per 1000cc's

no doubt...getting a specific output of 100hp/L on any NA motor is a pretty mean feat...but you are starting from a much better base on the KL...a motor that likes to rev, with heads that breathe and a decent (compared to the FS) aftermarket.

To do it for the FS, you have to fabricate just about everything....

Very true..and that is sad, since anything beyond basic bolt-ons has to be fabbed for the KL, lol.

...fwiw, it is not that easy to make 250whp in a KL..that feat is being grossly underestimated....though easier than 200whp in a FS for sure.

totally agree...it too would take some custom made stuff too, but its a much better starting point than the FS...

but it has no problem revving physically...the ZE's stock cut off is over 7000rpm...and its roughly square dimensions keep breathing problems at those rpm in acceptable shape even above that...but then you are getting into another problem with the ECU, as you would still need a stand alone to start adjusting rev limits iirc...

the bad part though is that anything you do to a V6 internal will automatically be more expensive...6 rods, 6 pistons, etc. simply cost more...no way around it...any cam mods are double, as you need twice as many...

I'm still just taking notes on it...if and when I do a KL...its simply to get a more usable 200whp or so...not going all out for 250whp+ NA...its a very realistic starting point for 200whp with little mods other than typical bolt ons...

Just out of stupid curiosity has anyone tried this with a ZM (1.6L)? I have a Haltech E6X that I've procured along the way (because of a turbo build I've been scheming) but I've recently been thinking of going NA instead using the Haltech for tuning. Any thoughts?

60 pages is alot to read so if nobody won yet then I hate to say it but I think these guys cracked 100whp / liter quite a while ago with a 1.8

What I like about this video is coming out of the turn and accelerating to 9000 RPM's. Now you understand why we went with ITB's and do not need a stroker kit.

but if the race is for forum members only then go on!

Love the way it sounds! Wish my 1.6L sounded that way. Something to think about but I'm not sure I could handle dropping in ITBs. No experience with them.

He is in Puerto Rico, and I am not sure that he really cares all that much about the forum thing. It is not his job to build something and then tell everyone how to do it. Sure it would be nice, but if he doesn't so be it.
Leo will tell you anything you want if you call him...which of course you would need his number. He has posted all over Probetalk.com about the setup. If you care to venture over there you will see this dyno charts and such. Just because it is not on here doesn't mean it did not happen. It is not like I am just saying that I know someone and that there is nothing about them to be found anywhere..there is a smattering of video of his car on PT and youtube. And if you want another example of this 'race' being completed look on the PRM website..Gerry Sica topped 280whp n/a in a KL powered Probe 6+ years ago.

I had an AP1 S2000 last year. 120 HP/L. Do I win a prize? :p

(sorry, just playing pile on ;))

I have cleared the recent bit of drama between JKPgt96 and myself. Rules will be updated to reflect a requirement to be an active posting member on this forum for eligability.

120bhp/L... :p
Yeah, you're right. It's only like 99 whp/L lol

Refer to the rules muff, and shut up you crazy bugger.

lol I know. I was just trying to show how silly the "I know a guy who knows a guy whose sister's boyfriend's roomate's cousin has a 100 whp/L car!" argument is

FWIW, I've been lurking in this thread for like ever. The plan, though life has sort of stepped in the way recently (3 month old twins :D), is to build an engine approaching the 100 whp/L barrier for the new class we're in with the race car. So, there's a TON of info here for me, which is awesome. And one of these days when the budget loosens up some, I'll start updating my progress here :)

Its all together now will try startup this week. Some new pics;
