Hi, everyone!

First time poster to this board and will hopefully soon be the owner of an MSP 2003.5. I'm a n00b when it comes to cars so I have a few questions to anyone who is willing to help:

1. What does "flashing of the ECU" means since I keep seeing it around. Is this something that I should ask the dealer to do before I take ownership of the vehicle? Would you recommend it?

2. Any Colorado owners out there? How does the car deal with the altitude/climate?

3. Anyone have any idea who/where in Colorado will flash an MSP?

Help a n00b out! Thanks, everyone!

Welcome to the board (hi)

I hope you enjoy your time here.

1. If your dealer hasn't already flashed the car you probably want to ask for it. Essentially the Mazdaspeed suffered from stumbling/hesitation when accelerating. The Flash reprograms the ECU and a stock Mazdaspeed runs much better with it. Dealers were supposed to flash all remaining stock so they may have already done it, just ask.

I can't comment on your other 2 questions as I am a Californian ;)

would defintely ask if they done it BEFORE driving it off the lot. Most MAzda dealers seem to be incompetent when it comes to the Mazdaspeed, and to put it simply

Don't have a f'n clue.

They may not flash it before hand because they just don't know.

Welcome MSPFury, just hang around on this board and you will start learning more about your car in a very short time. There are many members here that are very knowledgable about cars. I have learned much about the msp by just surfing through this board. have fun with the msp.(thumb)

2. I live at 7200 ft and the car still has a slight pulse in the acceleration even after the flash. I imagine that almost all cars run a little richer and or require a little more tuning around these parts.

3. I drove up to Denver and went to Gateway Mazda in Aurora. If you are anywhere near Denver, I highly reccomend going to them whenever you need work on your car. The service mgr is awesome, and the Mazdaspeed tech really knows the car.

Zoom...thanks a million for the tip! And thank you everybody for the warm welcome. If, for some reason, the car is not flashed at the time of purchase, do I have to pay anything extra if I take it to Gateway Mazda? Would you by any chance recall the name of the service manager?

Can't remember his name but I have a card from Matthew W. Falk, he can help you out. They had 2 other msp's getting flashed right after mine, so they will definitely know what's up. # is 303-344-5800, 90 Havana ST.
