My goal is to break into the 15's spending reasonable amounts of money. Anyone have any suggestions on how i should go on doing that? What to do next..

nice work bluslowtege

i've suggest an intake (like injen etc), good tyres, stiffer suspension (to stop the car squatting at the rear) and with practice (the fun part) you'll be into the 15's.

other option - reduce the weight of the car

so i went to the track to test out what the obx header is good for. I am very satisfied at the results.
60'---2.303
330'--6.677
1/8--10.321
mph--67.34
1000--13.468
1/4--16.143
mph--84.03
my mods are obx header and custom axle-back.
Best run before the header is 16.6@81mph
nice times, cams will get you into the 15's easy

Torque is everything. When my last car was boosted it was all about sitting in the trq in the powerband. There was no point reving it high. I might have made 120whp at 4psi, but the trq was so much higher than other Hondas. A great example was racing a 6th gen SI. A B16 usually makes about 135whp and about 100wtrq, I raced one on the highway and pulled it the whole way in my crappy DX that stock, might have made 95whp, making less hp and more trq. It you're relying in hp on a motor that stops making power at 6,000 (if you had a FS-DE), god save us all.

Not tryin to jump on Mazda website and cause problems, but I am intrigued by this particular post...

The B16 makes 142.5whp and yeah about 100wtrq, now your stock DX makes how much stock? I'm guessing that it's 107 and 112? Correct me if I'm wrong please. The Si's sure as hell don't get off the line too fast, but on the highway they aren't too shabby. I'm not calling you a liar, but are you sure this guy was racing you?

Mind you all that I respect tuners that keep it clean and I'm not the "Civic guy" thats here to argue. I'm learning a lot from reading these posts. Trying to make myself a more well-rounded tuner.

Where do you guys go to buy the mp3 ecu?? I'm asking for a friend of mine with a 99 ES. Thanks

Rrp! Holidays, sorry about the delay. =) n2oCivic, yeah, I love the WRX. =) Turbo's are unfortunatly addictive, but I run N/A on my P5, since my other two cars are turbo. =) Honestly, the Protege is a lot more fun at lower speeds and cornering, plus all my brake upgrades make it REALLY nice to mash on the brakes. It feels like your retinas are detaching from your eyes under hard braking. Hehee.

protito: The ECU I got, I paid 140 for, shipped to me from Florida, but I think I got a pretty good deal. Make sure you talk to the various people who have them, and see if you can get a good price!

thank you for having a rational attitude towards things.... i can appreciate that.

diff being between the si and the protege is number 1 vtec motors are all the epescially quick off the line but run like mad on top end. number 2, gearing im pretty sure the protege has a higher final drive and shorter gearing and a shorter redline then the si, i've raced a b16 hatch (motor was pulled from a 99 civic si) eg hatch , sotck otherwise except a set of rota slipstreams and falken azenis from a 20 roll and ay 80 he had half a car on me and i only make around 120whp/125-130wtrq.

Thank you for being just as rational.
That's awesome that you kept up as well as you did. I've seen some pretty quick hatches with B16's. I raced a Protege ES on the highway from a 40mph roll and I was more than a half a car ahead by the time I hit 130. But I know that they are also governed at like 115 or 117.
I think that the B18 VTEC motors are quick off the line, but the B16 takes the cake for worst torque from Honda, I usually have to make up the half a car I lose off the line. I don't mind being a little weak off the line, b/c when most people are shifting into 2nd, I'm still on my way up to 8200, that usually helps. I don't know the specs on the Protege trannies, but the B16 is probably the shortest geared tranny for VTEC motors. I wish I had an LS Integra tranny b/c 145mph just isn't enough yet. I like that pic of you auto-xing! That is you right? I just installed some Tokico Illumina 5-ways a few months ago to set up for some SCCA type racing. I've got the strut bars in the front upper and rear upper and lower too, so that helps.

Hmm.. Over a year ago when I was still just rocking bolt-on's I had no problem taking '99 Si's from a roll, or from a dig. Granted the driver always help, but with (at the time) 125whp/135ftlbs I really had no problems. FYI proteges are drag limited to about 136 est. I've had the DX up into that area a couple times. Right now the only all-motor honda I cant' beat is my buddies B18C/B20 bolt-on 2-door integra..That son of a b**** is quick..

I don't drive a Protege, but a 2.5 KLZE Probe. My best n/a slip to date is 13.1 on an internally stock ZE (no changes from oil pan to intake manifold) - a few bolt ons. The best trap on this setup was 103.5 mph.
