Hi there!
We just bought a used 2008 cx-9 GT and was looking over the car and came across this module. It looks like something aftermarket, but i have no idea what it does. Its located near the coin drawer and hood release...does anyone have any ideas? mystery module in mazda.webp
Thanks.

Security module (not alarm) installed by dealer.
One of cars I used to own had one.
Dealer wanted to charge me a couple hundreds for it. I declined.
They sealed it up.

the vehicle? usually they are immobilizing devices, not car alarms. You have a key fob and if it's not in proximity of the module, the car won't start. My other thought was it was a remote start module. Undo the 2 screws and look on the back to see if it says anything.

The "key" was actually a small printed circuit board.
Once inserted, it completed the connection and enabled the ignition.
After I refused to pay the $200 they asked for it, they inserted the "key" and sealed it up with glue.

When I worked a "CAT" or catastrophe 3 week shift in Louisville, Kentucky for hail damage last spring, all these cars had aftermarket immobilizers, basically a small piece of plastic on their keyring, that had to be touched to a module similar to the picture posted at the beginning of this thread. Just a tap from surface to surface allowed the ignition to work.

I guess cars in the ghetto have to have this kind of stuff. (rollseyes)
