as most of you know i rear ended my buddy last night and ****** up my front end pretty good. today i ordered a new msp front bumper and my friend is gonna paint it for me. all i need to know is where can i have my color code mixed and aged at? will places like sherwin-williams do it?
and i also need to know what to do with the bumper lights since i wont be using them anymore. should i just leave the plug hanging in the bumper or should i cut it off and tape off the ends of the wires with electrical tape?

thats what ive been sayin man. 6 days ago i said that there have been a lot of p5s getting wrecked lately.....now look where im at

What did you hit and how bad is the damage behind the bumper ,is the rad supprt bent or not . If it just the bumper just get an new bumper cover .

here ill copy and paste what ive been telling everyone. and youll get an idea of how bad it is.
i rear ended an 89 Supra (a tank compared to this car)

cracked the front bumper, pushed the driver side quarter panel in (can be fixed though its not that bad), bent the core support, bent both radiator brackets, and broke off the lower grill. i ripped the upper one off because i was pissed and because the hood wouldnt close (grill got shoved upwards). both headlights are sunk in a little bit (not too bad) but none of the lights were broken which is really good.

mechanically the car is fine, i didnt puncture the radiator. its all cosmetic damage

i ordered a MSP bumper cover this morning from onlinemazdaparts.com

Pinstripes?
yea i have them, but the fenders arent ****** up, so i wont need to replace them.
its lookin like im gonna need a new upper tie bar too, im waiting on my mechanic to tell me if it can be ripped back into shape on a frame straightener, but i doubt it can be. thatll be another $86 gone.....

well according to the website of my body shop, they use sherwin williams paint, and its always matched the rest of the car, so ill probably stop by the sherwin williams store and see how much a can of my color will cost, it has to be aged too so hopefully it wont cost too much.

well i have an estimate from the body shop
$1376

but i have to go back tomorrow because i forgot about the dent in the hood. and im not having the upper and lower grills installed so thats $183 saved. but im having my passenger fog light replaced too since it has a hole in it.

tomorrow ill have a accurate estimate for my car. its a lot better then i expected

oh yea the body shop refuses to order me a MSP front bumper. theyd make me buy it if thats the one i want. kinda made me mad.

That's really not bad considering the damage. Hopefully the shop will do a good job and fix it right the first time. It's good that the headlights are intact or it would be much higher.

i need a new drivers side headlight actually, the plastic piece that is attached to the front bumper broke off completely

but yea its not bad at all

the piece that attaches to the side of the bumper? there's a part number for that, available separately?

Nothing from the headlight attaches to the front of the bumper.. just on the side of the headlight and bumper.

yea its on the side. the piece behind the fiberglass next to the upper grill. if you can find me a part number thatd be awesome, then i can tell the body shop that and keep the cost down (have to stay under $1800 total including a rent a car to use my insurance since i didnt file this as an accident...my dads an insurance agent and he was explaining how this thing works, its gonna be written off as property damage)

well.. that's on the front of the bumper.. so I dunno if there's a part number for that.

I'd give onlinemazdaparts.com (in NC) a call to see what they could do for you.

Dude, I feel your pain. Sunday afternoon a Toyota T100 decided to reverse into me at a stop sign. Now like most trucks it sits a little stinkbug, so it made it enogh to go all the way up the front bumper and push in my hood. it doesnt look like much compaired to yours but still an easy $1500.00
Crazy thing is...How in hell do you not see a bright red car behind you honking and decide to keep going and hit it? Feel your pain my friend. In retrospect, at least its not us thats hurt! Take care

well i went back to the body shop today. got a new quote for everything
heres the run down

2 new headlights (tabs broke off on the side that attaches to the bumper)
repair the hood latch
replace the upper tie bar
replace both radiator upper brackets
repair hood
replace bumper cover grommet
replace bumper cover
R&I both washer nozzles

Grand Total
10.5 hours of labor, 7.2 hours of paint
$1,694.71 (ouch)
but the good news is, my dad is gonna have insurance cover this, so its not outta my pocket...cuz it wouldnt be getting fixed if i had to pay for it.
im leaving the upper and lower grills off because thats $183 that i dont need to spend for something id just remove anyways

Hmm Good thing insurance will be able to cover minus your deductible. Funny by the looks of your pics, and by the quote you got a good deal. I had alot less visible damage and it was over a much smaller area, and it was still $1400-ish Im thinking California is really expensive, and they do really honest work at a fair price in NC. Good luck man. take care
