My Wild? KL Build

OK, time for a long overdue update on this..

I will be switching to a SCAT H-Beam 5.4 rod, instead of the I-beams that I have. I have the new rods and they are really nice, and pretty light. They are 413g with 7/16" ARP2000 bolts...good for 1000hp according to SCAT.

I installed a new wiring harness, which we trimmed of all the unneeded stuff and re-loomed/taped the entire thing...it really cleaned up the bay a lot. We had to do this because something in the harness was shorting out the MS processor, and after 5 processors I was tired of searching for the issue and just replaced it all.

I have removed all of the HVAC stuff from the car, and bought a coolant line loop for the heater core lines until I have the thermostat housing welded up and modded for a -20 AN fitting. I lucked out and found a plug that covers the heater core hole in the firewall nicely. I have also got a Protege Mishimoto Fan Shroud Kit sitting in the garage that I need to trim and install onto the radiator :).

I also bought some SSR Integral A2's for the car. They are a 17 x 8, +38 and I got a great deal on them from Dallas.

The car now has a Renault Laguna front splitter on it, which came from the UK, and looks really nice on the front, but does still need a little attention to get it just right. I have also installed my D2 RS Coilovers, and the stance is really nice on it right now (pics in the pic forum).

Car just had the side trim removed and the rest of the adhesive taken off yesterday with a rubber wheel, so now I have to just put some rubbing compound on the car and wax it for my trip to Indy this weekend!

..it also passed inspection this morning, and is getting plates this afternoon! Personal plates to follow ;). I will get pics up when it is all cleaned up!

Motor is not done..but now the car is legal so I can make some more progress on it!

Nice update! Those sound like some hella beefy rods! How will you de-fog your windows without any blowers or anything?

Yeah..the rods are huge.......................

Not worried about defogging the windows, lol. The car gets driven in nice weather only, and if it starts to rain I can crack the windows and rain usually doesn't come in. I figure I will put something on the inside to help deter fogging up anyway..

Got my plates yesterday, and applied for vanity plates as well..hopefully they will be here in a few weeks. They are 'zr0 psi' (naught, not zero). :) More pics to come once I wash/wax the car and get the SSRs back on. I got the trim off and the remaining adhesive off of the whole car and touched up a couple spots..so come Thursday I should be able to have it all cleaned up for some purdy pictures, lol.

Wow, it looks killer. Do you know if those tires run wide or narrow for that brand? The 225's looked like they were pushing it on my FD's (16x8 +50) on the 626. Maybe Probes just have more room under the fenders?

Not a clue honestly..right now there are Goodyear Eagle GT somethings on the rear and Dunlop SP Sport something on the front..both 235/45/17, but the Goodyears are about .75" larger OD than the Dunlops, I am not sure how they compare width-wise. I know a 245/255 will fit on a FD wheel without issue..but I am not sure about how they fit on a Probe.

Thanks for the kind words though. I do intend on going to a 245/45 or 245/40 when it comes time for tires next.

No. I abandoned the build after I bought my M3. I sold most of the parts to a friend in Indy who used them in his KL Escort GT. I got to the point where I was ready to send off the block to be assembled, the heads were done and ready for cams, but I didn’t go through with it. I’m still around the groups and forums if you have any questions.

Were you planning on doing anything other than the external wet sump to help with oiling? There have been a few discussions as to whether or not the motor could survive long at that rpm.

Did your friend do anything with the parts? Did he have the same goal in mind?

It’s something I was working through but didn’t not have lined out yet from what I recall. Sorry I can’t give you more than that on it.
