Oh my homosexual god!

good points though and a great way of explaining the ecu learning curve. +1 for calling it a fuckus.

so do stand alones remove the signal as opposed to altering it and deliver the information itself?

The stand alone can do one of two things depending on the system. Some systems completely replace the Engine ECU and run everything on their own. Depending on how good the system is and how well it is set-up for street driving you may never notice a difference. The problems with these systems is that late model cars also use that ECU to control other functions of the car therefore you may sacrifice the use of accesories, alarm systems, and othere things that are linked into that system. With the advent of mutiple vehicle ECUs that typically isnt a huge concern anymore. Some systems that can be hardwired in will just take the place of the fuel and timing control of the engine leaving the stock ecu to control all the other ammeneties on the car.

Like i said i am not by any means an expert on this stuff but just relaying what i have read and researched whether its all correct or i am relaying it correctly could be questioned by somebody with more expeirence.

Speaking of which i guess i should start looking into the microtech so i have some knowledge when we put it in the car or cars

yeah I have already amde a deal for the mega squirt, it has some preloaded maps for stock injectors as well as 440s. Look ing forward to hooking it together and running smarter.

Just to list a few [important] others:

-Alternator (IIRC, this applies to the Protege)
-Tach (Protege, easy workaround though)
-Speedo (maybe, Protege)

Hell yeah! I'm looking forward to it.

Oooooh you are close!

I'm getting cold feet about doing this. I don't want to blow my motor and have to drop the money on a new one :/ I only need a few parts too... BOV and lines are the only ones that come to mind.

let me know when you do. I'm stuck deciding between the two, but megasquirt is looking awfully nice these days :D
the price makes it nice, but i'm not sure how it controls everything and what it controls

It has unlimited potential, just the user needs to be aware that they have to put the megasquirt together.

Before I depart for Turkey...I'm getting one put in....I've heard only good things.
