Here's a few pics of my other race car, which is a long work in progress. I only had these few recent pics on my laptop, so I will add some more under construction photos when I get back to my house, probably Christmas Day.

For those who don't know, this is a 1975 Chevrolet Cosworth Vega, they only built 3,508 of them in 1975 and 1976. I have had umm...at last count...14 of them. I only have three right now, but 11 engines and too many other parts to count.

Current state of being (state of confusion?)

2.0L DOHC 16v designed by Cosworth of England based on a production 2.3L Vega engine

13.75:1 compression, Arias pistons, Superrod connecting rods, stock forged nitrided crank

Copper Head Gasket, Custom made

.450/256 intake cam/.430/246 exhaust cam

SI Stainless Steel Valves

Full P&P head, flow matched with cc'd combustion chambers

STOCK 4-2-1 Stainless Steel Header with custom extended secondaries to increase low end torque for autocross days, 3" straight pipe dump before the right rear tire (yes it's freaking loud!)

Custom fabricated 4-1 header with 3" Burns collector for open track days with a three inch dump in front of the driver's side rear tire (yes it's freaking louder!)

Milodon Oil Pan (7qt)

Accusump Oil Pressure reservoir with remote filters

Champion Sparkplugs

Total Seal rings

ARP Head Studs and Main Studs

Modified Oil Pump

McCleod 7" 3 disc clutch with hydraulic t/o bearing

Richmond T-10 style close ratio 4 speed trans

Aluminum driveline (possibly carbon fiber in the near future)

4.56:1 final drive with Auburn Pro Posi

Monza Brake rotors (rear were custom machined from stock fronts for drum to disc conversion)

Wilwood four piston calipers (yes, on 10" rotors!)

Hawk Blues

Wilwood proportioning valve

custom trailing links, torque arm rear suspension

Modified front control arms with Delrin bushings

1.25" splined front sway bar/1" hollow .120 wall rear swaybar

C&R Triple pass radiator with built in NASCAR (ick) style oil heat exchanger

Fully triangulated front to rear roll cage, fully seam welded (I actually can jack up one corner and get three wheels off the ground!)

Autometer gauges

MSD Ignition (being replaced next year)

Painless wiring fuse box and switch panels (not installed yet)

13"x8" Super Lite (Minilite replicas) (unopened in the boxes)

22x10x13 goodyear slicks (Used by CSR/DSR racers, worn out for them, perfect for me to autocross on) Old BFG R1s on 13"x7" Aluminum Aero Wheels right now

Tilton floor mount brake pedal assy with remote reservoirs (not installed yet)

ATL Fuel Cell, 22 gal foam filled for track days/enduros (currently in the car with Holley Blue pump and regulator from the old dual Weber DCOE 50mm carb set up)

ATL Fuel Cell, 8 gal foam filled with dual pick ups for autocross to reduce rear static weight

Aeromotive fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, filters, test port (req by SCCA) and all braided stainless lines with Aeroquip fittings (not installed yet)

Now onto the future stuff:

Electomotive TEC 3r EMS with Distributorless ignition

Completely custom tuned length intake manifold

440cc injectors

Ohlins or Penske 3 way adjustable shocks with remote reserviors

Coil overs (pain in the ass, very little travel in the front, the fron shoch are actually going to come through the body and mount to the cage like a tube frame car to get proper stroke travel - hardest part of the build by far...rear shocks atock are at a 30 degree in board angle, they will have to be relocated upright which means to get the travel, the shocks will enter the passenger compartment to mount to the cage)

More to come late, how about some pics:

Final result? Motor made 290 whp at 9,800 rpm (who need VTEC?) with Hilborn injection and 35% nitro at the Bonneville Salt Flats a few years ago, mechanical injection, using a distributor...things are looking up for it next year, hopefully we can match that on Torco 116 octane.

I'm sure I forgot a lot of stuff, I'll add as I add pics and start getting stuff installed... Who knows? Nationals 2017?

And lastly, the tow vehicle:

Cox20041020181424.jpg

Okay, this isn't mine, but mine looks just like tit except it's 2wd, will be on 20's as soon as the crappy weather stops, and will have airbags in the rear, pics of the trailer to come, dual axle tilt, weighs more than the race car at 2200 lbs! Tows like a dream even without the airbags.

More to come.

Reserved and I will correct the spelling mistakes later. 16 hours at work - must sleep...

Nice, love the Vega. There's one around here that races 1/4 mile and damn is it ever fast. The thing is so small it just goes.

Sounds beastly :D Very cool. At Nationals there was an '06 Civic Si in EP that dominated. I believe it was EP anyways. Very quick, fully built.

Yeah that's the HART Racing Civic. But it didn't domintate at Nationals, a 79 RX3 won! Old school rules!

You've had 14 of those? God, my wife would have killed me 12 ago....LOL!

Looking good.

Very nice Britt.
I'd love to have the chance to see and hear that baby in action someday, but you're just too damn far away!
(Britt knows) I've been looking and saving for one of these myself, but not for racing, just for modding and restoring.
Cosworth Vega is one of my favorite old American cars and just about the only one I can afford. For now, anyway. My dream is to buy one and rebuild the engine to Cosworth's original specs and not the emission-law choked limp biscuit it turned out to be. Although, to be fair, even though the final product was underpowered, it was still a fun driver. And a good-looking car, especially for the 70s, 'cuz that was like, the worst decade ever for design.

there's 170 whp to be had with simple exhaust, ignition and intake changes. removal of some of the emissions equipment and reindexing the cams (which coincidently when reindexed have the same profile as the HO 327s in 68. The car is a blast to drive and is simply one of the best handling cars of that decade.

I'll post pics of all the ones I have owned, and I can help you locate one if you want,

Very nice car. Britt, you must have a helluva job to be able to afford all your toys (and I thought I had a lot!). I have always liked the Vegas, I can remember when they came out. One of my favorites from that era (along with the Opel GT).

My sister had one of the German Capris with the V6, hot car. I almost got one for my senior year in college, but ended up with a Dodge Dart (slant 6) instead.

Thanks for the compliments. Yea I have a decent job, but I work hard for my toys. I usually work 72 hours a week nights, but the overtime is good, yea for unions!

I might be picking another one up this week, but it's just to clean up and sell. A lot of people can't figure out the fuel injection (it's analog with no o2 sensor) so they throw these great bodied cars in thier garages for 20 years. New fuel lines, injectors, o-rings and a bit of tuning and I've made $3 in profits. I have a great picture of this car at Riverside back in the day when wrist pin #3 gave up and the rod started spinning and literally cut the block in half spraying pressurized oil all over the exhaust and the whole car is engulfed in flames!

I will post a history of how I found it, the full painting process and more when I get the time, maybe this afternoon.

Britt

Haha, that should be $3k in profits!

Yeah 14 Cosworths, but I've had more like 22 Vegas total!

I'll put up pics of one of my other Vegas that was featured in Tony Huntimeier's "How to Build GM Pro-Touring Car" By Hp Press, available at most book stores or autoparts stores.

408 WHP at 2580 lbs 13" Baer brakes, L-89 TPI 350, T-5 trans, 17"x8" ROH Wheels, 255/40/17 A032rs...Can you say "Bye Viper?"
