My sentra is gone and a pretty STi replaced it.

why did u say the EVO is easier to tune ? i thought the sti was gonna be easier since it has a bigger displacement
There is almost no tried and true setup for the STi yet. Its a totaly new motor and is run by a computer only slightly less anal retantive then the mazda protege's.

Most intakes loose power from the car pulling timing. Other don't add anything. At best there is an unmeasurable horsepower gain. Only the Injen and K&N systems seem to be getting EM support but aren;t really showing gains.
Many free flowing exhuast cause major boost creep and possibly engine explosion.
Front mount intercoolers just aren't neccessary to make a difference until alot higher horsepower levels are obtained. Ther has been alot of street driving performace increases reported but nothing measured again.
Many of the EM's are having small set backs. The TurboXS system has a violent switch between the ECU and the piggy back. Vishnu has the same issue now and again. Blown coils are being commonly reported on standalone cars. Like always, many custom setups don't survive very long.

Really? That's sounds odd to me. There's a shop outside of Columbus that is claiming no problems with their tuning of an STi. Here's the post they made on a local forum.

I thought I'd post a few numbers from one of our local customers. He has an 04 STi with boltons only and has been very pleased with the torque and power he is achieving at the wheels. The motor is tested extensively for signs of mechanical failure but we have found none yet. We've performed quite a few checks on plugs, compression tests, etc. and the car is running strong. It has had the mods for about 4~6 months now and still running great. He's had it to the track but is a self admitted poor drag racer. He's almost into the 11's now.
smile.gif
One setback he had with this power was bending the rear endlinks from launching so hard.
Anyways, the mods are as follows. Tuning was all done in house on our Dynapack AWD dyno. These numbers are his best so far, but we are having him in on this weekend to dyno again (for free) because his boost was wavering badly. I believe he had a specific variable setup wrong on his boost controller. It is veryh likely he will achieve more torque; the whp may stay the same:

TXS UTEC with Remote Map Selector
TXS Full Turboback
GTS Exhaust Manifold and Uppipe with Jet Hot 2000
Walbro GSS342
Ultimate Racing Fuel Rails and 780 cc Injectors
TXS Front Mount
TXS Short Ram Intake
Quantum Racing Race TGV System
AVO 500 HP Turbo
1 Step Colder Plugs
Kartboy Shifter

The car right now has a completely stock longblock and clutch. He likes to slip the car a lot between gears (when not using the two step) and we can tell the clutch is about ready to go, but it is amazing that it has held up so far.
He is about ready to install a swirlpot, Aeromotive external pump, Aeromotive inline fuel filter, twin plate clutch and a few other things in anticipation of the built motor, ported heads and more boost. We've warned him about the strength limits of stock internals but he has opted to push it pretty far to find out for everyone what the car can handle with careful tuning and modifications. The car achieves peak torque at 4500 rpm and peak horsepower is at 6200 rpm. As I said, the numbers may raise this weekend when we take a look at his boost controller.
We'd been warned by a few shops that the valves may start lifting off the seats with much over 20 psi and cause misfiring, etc. We made this comment know to the customer but he felt he'd give it a go anyways.
smile.gif
We did encounter misfiring a little bit farther up in boost (21 or so) and thought we'd hit the brick wall but with some fresh plugs (and replacing a coil) the power came back and pulled cleanly. He later raised the boost again. Note that he is currently at 23.5 psi on CAM2 110 octane leaded gasoline for the 440 TQ / 447 HP runs. Please note that he runs the car all the time; it isn't a "three pulls and it pops" motor or something that he doesn't do very often. More often than not, he runs CAM2 in the car for his daily driving. He also has a Shell 93 pump gas map at his fingertips with the Remote Map Selector, but the CAM2 is like crack.

On a side note, the Subaru's really gain time by using the two-step between shifts; especially at this level. I've had WRX's pick up 0.4+ seconds with a big turbo. He has seen similar results with the AVO500 on his car.
Anyways, I hope some info has been helpful. I'd be glad to answer questions. I thought mods might want this in Proven Power Bragging or something of that nature but I've shared the info for technical reasons as to what we've been able to achieve with the STi. We have another STi about ready to hit the streets with a fully built Axis Power Racing motor and clutch/flywheel on top of this (and some other stuff). He should be grabbing a Hydra when they release as well.
Watch our site for pics of this and other cars and their dyno sheets, etc.

Bryon

Its been one of those 2 sided story deals from what I am finding. One is the story people are posting about, then the other is what people will actualy tell you face to face. Online I have yet to see someone mention some of the problems I have mentioned, in person its a different story. This happens in all car segments. People are either aligned or overly proud of what they have purchsed so they will not be honest about the issues they have had. I have experienced this several time in the mazda community aswell. Everyone praises a vendor online but go to a meet and its a TOTALY different story. You find out that the car ran like ass or not at all or was constantly reworked not to mention cost ran way over expectations and expectations where anything but met. Obviously, I am not aware of that car or the people involved directly so I can;t comment. However I have noticed a 3 month lag between similar large undertakings and there total sell off or destruction.

Haha, yeah that seems to happen around here.

I LOVE MY PROTEGE....someone buy it please, i'm parting it out.

didn't mean to threadjack, Enjoy the EVO. They are a blast to drive, but if you don't know how to drive fast properly (on a track or a spirited back raod adventure), be careful! That car can also get you in over your head quickly. I've seen it happen.

Well this s*** sucks. I got the call I thought I would. The dealership called back and said that the numbers would not work so I had to return the car. They did that next day BS where they call and say we can still do it but your payment will be higher. What BS I am so pissed, but you know I was all over that car on the way back to the dealer. So much for the break in period. I feel bad for the guy who buys it after me cause I was beating it all the way back to the dealer. Well I guess this means I will be buying a used evo or sti. We'll see.
Dodge did the same BS to me when I got my SRT4, even with my nice down payment. Oh well, I enjoyed it for the couple days I owned it (evil).

Congrats on the EVO and sweet color too (cool)

Dealers love to do that BS then try and get you to pay more. I said fine I got to drive it and you can have it back now and I'll go buy an EVO, no big deal.

I am enjoying the EVO. I ordered my tb exhaust, hks cams, fidanza cam gears, walbro 255 fuel pump, arp head studs, gauges, boost controller, turbo timer, injen intake w/upper intercooler pipe. All that stuff and an ecu reflash should have me seeing somewhere around the 320whp mark. Then in a couple of months it's fmic w/lower ic pipe and maybe aem ems and that should put upwards of 350whp and closer to 400whp. Just the aem ems alone on these cars with a good tune will yeild around 50-75whp. It's amazing how this thing responds to bolt-ons.

nice list, how much did that list set you back? and are you going to do a dyno before and after everything, I would like to know the difference.

The biggest reason I bought the MSP was how light on its' feet it feels, the responsiveness of the suspension. It felt light like my 2200lb civic did, but much stiffer, and much faster.

Riding with a friend in his STi in autox, and driving another friend's tuned 2.5RS in autox gave me a definite feeling of weight, like someone else said it feels much more disconnected. They move like hell, and the AWD is like the ultimate stupidity correction device, I like that. =] The kick in the pants when he got on the gas was the only time I've been glad I was wearing a helmet in autox!

If what people say about the EVO is true it seems like that'd be the car more of us MSP owners would prefer, with the lighter feel and more communicative handling. I definitely see more experienced autox drivers choosing the EVO over the STi, they say it's due to the more adjustable camber. I just hope for their sake that Mitsubishi stays in business!

Well everytihing went in today without a hitch. Except fof the fact that my exhaust didn't show up, I got the o2 housing and downpipe but the cat back and cat delet pipe didn't show up. I will be going to a dyno day tomorrow and will be getting a custom tune and tweek the cam gears a little to try and get the idle to be a little better. If I can work a deal with the guy I will throw it up on the dyno and see what it does, the tune alone is gonna cost me 350.00 and after all these mods and christmas I am a little strapped for cash. Hopefully I can work a deal so I can see the whp numbers on this beast. I'll update this post tomorrow with the results.

I can't do a before dyno run because all the parts are already in, but I can tell you that the average EVO put down around 230 to the wheels. I will try and get it on the dyno tomorrow after I get it tuned.

Where did you get all those amazing parts??? I bet you got a great deal along with some fabulous customer service!!!
