My sentra is gone and a pretty STi replaced it.

why did u say the EVO is easier to tune ? i thought the sti was gonna be easier since it has a bigger displacement

Because the 4g63 is a tried and true motor with a huge aftermarket community, the same can not be said for the STi. Not to mention with tb exhaust, intake, boost controller and ecu reflash the Evo will have 300awhp. That's 1500.00 and you get around 70awhp, not too bad.

Thanks buddy you didnt have to be a dousche bag about it. I could do without the wise ass comment. Same goes to brianmcd.

Sorry, I didnt read the whole thread. I just wanted to comment on the guys new STi...didnt bother reading the thread.

Geeesh get the sand out of your cooch for god sake. And I wonder why I dont go on here and post anymore.(dunno) Honestly what is this? SRTforums? Whats with the Mazdaspeed Nazis...a Simple statment saying he got a evo should have done the job but no, we had to be wise asses. Just for you I wil analyse and read every single word in every single thread before posting, okay?

strongbearO just as good dont really see blue that much...I like it! See you around! I would definately love to see both cars at the next Mazda Meet.

BTW in your opinion do you think a SRT-4 can beat a 2004 EVO VIII from a roll? I have someone who would like to test that theory out. I know the 2005 EVO VIII come with ACD and AYC standard. Was wondering if it makes a huge difference when running in a straight line. If all goes well he'll test it out against a MR and 2004 EVO.

The new mr is slower than the 03 Evo. The six speed gear box slowed it down. Do a search and look at 0-60 times and you will see the new one is slower than the 03 from 0-60 and then it gains around 100 just like the STi and the evo. Evo is faster 0-60 but the STi will trap higher in the 1/4 because of the gearing. I mean if you look at a side by side breakdown of the evo and sti from 0-120 it looks identical, but equal money put into mods will yeild much bigger gains on the evo. Here is a good look at the evo vs. srt-4 . Look at the 100ft all the way up to 1.5 mile times. The evo wins every one except for the 1.5 mile time, which it looses by .03 of a second, and the srt-4 traps higher in all of them after a quarter mile. The srt-4 very well may be able to beat and evo from a roll but the evo was designed for 0-60 times not rolling starts, not to mention the fact that when I hit a turn the srt-4 will be dust. So winning a race when it is conditional is not really winning I could say lets race 0-60 through the twisties and I can probably take most cars, but in a straight line those same cars will beat me, not to mention when I drop 3k into the evo the srt-4 will be toast. With the evo around 350awhp 0-60 times will drop down to the 4.2-4.0 range and 1/4 mile in mid to low 12's. That's right up there with the z06 and viper.

It's in the garage now. 9,000 miles and in damn good condition.

I am up on the air on which is better. The STi was brand new so the tires were perfect and the steering was perfect. The evo has 9000 miles and is a little more broken. The tires are worn a little and the suspension feels a little rougher. But as of now i will reserve my opinion.
Just an FYI you only have about 2k more miles on the stock advans. they are super soft and wear out very fast. I just went with Dunlop FM901s and R-compounds for the track.

The suspension is more harsh in the Evo and has nothing to do with being "worn" The evo is a much less "refined" car then the STi but will reward you when pushing the car. I love my Evo and although I really like the STi I would not trade. Maybe I should get an STi too?

Welcome to the world of AWD!!!(cool)

Edit: Make sure you get a boost controler on that Evo. Evos have no topend stock because of the boost taper. You can get rid of this by removing the boost control selinoid and running a simple MBC set to 20psi (19psi tapering to 15psi is stock) As long as you get an ECU flash to ensure proper A/Fs you will be set to go kill most anything on the street or track. Just make sure that you get the flash and don't run anything over 24psi because the stock big 16G won't like you for very long.

With just a TB (stock cat), Intake, MBC, and Dyno Flash I am making 259hp 270lb/ft. On the same dyno stock Evos were making 215-220hp (very stingy for a Dynojet)

Have fun

Have you driven an STi, Bakari? I'm wondering what your take on the handling of each. Also, have you had anything break on your evo? I've heard the STi's are more bulletproof. I <3 both cars, but I think I'm saving up for an STi eventually.

I think not. I have not heard about a lot of problems with the evo but I have heard about tranny problems with the sti. I thik it is because the sti has low end torque and it hits harder down low and puts mor stress on the drivetrain. The sti felt so fast through the gears and down low but when I shifted it it hit real hard when the power kicked in. They are just totally different not to mention the sti was so much more than the evo. I would have spent 10k more on the sti. That's 10k I can put into the evo and I will kill sti like nothing.

Comparing Evo -> STi:

I have ridden in a few STis but have never asked to drive one. I feel with a cars like these it's not proper to take someone's for a "joy ride". To just take a STi for a stroll around the block is pointless, I would need to flog one to get a good idea of how the car handles. I have been in one STi where we were getting on it hard and the car handled very well. The feeling that I got reminded me of the 6.5 TME where it will do what you tell it, when you tell it, but the car won't "tell" you what it's doing. Kind of a vauge feeling.

My opinion on my Evo:

13k and no problems from my baby. I have had it modded since the break-in period ended and have loved every minute. The car has seen a few track weekends and auto-x and has been nothing but beauty. The opinion that I have gathered from my evo is that it is the most responsive and communicative car that I have ever driven. The car is pure with no electronic gadgetry to interfear with YOU driving. Just mechanical goodness in every turn and pure power when shooting off the apexes.

Reliability:

The majority of the problems with the Evo comes from drag racing. The t-case was not made to withstand 350+hp and 1.6sec 60' times. The xfer case was made to stand up to auto-xing and roadracing by the bucket full. Most of the t-cases die because of the open limited slip in the front. When launching the car hard you can get some wheel hop that will eventually kill the spider gears in the front slip. After the slip falls apart, the pieces will go through the t-case and kill that too. (about $2700 including labor or $1200 for t-case alone)

Also the clutch was designed to slip to avoid american idiots, that waste a car like the Evo drag racing, from killing the drivetrain. After a good number of hard launches your clutch will be toast and will begin slipping. My clutch is still beauty and I have had no problems with it. As long as you use the Evo for what it was designed to do you won't have any issues.

Brianmcd - You will enjoy whatever car you choose but I would suggest that you, being a auto-xer, look very hard at the Evo. Lt. Dan took my Evo out for an auto-x session and set fast time of the day with four (4) people in the car!!!!

Well this s*** sucks. I got the call I thought I would. The dealership called back and said that the numbers would not work so I had to return the car. They did that next day BS where they call and say we can still do it but your payment will be higher. What BS I am so pissed, but you know I was all over that car on the way back to the dealer. So much for the break in period. I feel bad for the guy who buys it after me cause I was beating it all the way back to the dealer. Well I guess this means I will be buying a used evo or sti. We'll see.
Which dealer did this to you? The same thing happened to my old boss when he bought a Black MSP (he had it for 5 days). He had to return it & got a Laser Blue P5 instead. I got the idea to get the MSP from seeing his car.

Bob dance subaru outside orlando. I actually got a tresspass order put against me cause I told the salesman I was gonna **** him up. He called my house right before I had to take my girl to a doctors appointment and told me I had to ring the car back right then. I told him I don't jump when you say jump and he said he was gonna send a repo man. I said "you are a piece of s*** and I will kick your ******* ass if you threaten me". I am not a small guy, 6'5" and 240llbs ask spacemonkey and mspeed101 they know me, needless to say when I arrived at the dealership after thouroughly beating the sti on the way there the cops were waiting for me. The guy hid in his office and cried to the cops like a little baby. When he brought back my downpayment he was close to me and I actually thought about slapping him, but the cop was there andI didn't feel like going to jail. Instead I went and saved 10k on a car that I like better and I got the oppertunity to drive both of them. And now I can say something that I didn't think I would be saying anytime soon, "that in one week I owned both an STi and an EVO."

I don't think many people can say that. Oh well sucks about the STI, but I think the Evo is a better choice.

on a personal note, when comparing interiors from the evo to the msp which do you think is better??? Besides the seats that is... And compare it to the STi.... In my opionion, the STi interior makes out interiors look like 2nd rate...

with the STi beating the piss out, how much fun was launching the car:D. also, good choice with that colour on the used EVO, very nice indeed. I think it's prolly best they took the car back, since you got to a) beat the piss out of it, b)get a better car(not much better, but a tiny bit overall) c)threaten to '**** up' some pissant salesperson d) get a car that the MSP was styled to look like.....sweet man, sweet

The msp doesn't have the nicest interior. The STi was nice on the inside but I like the way the evo feels better. It might not be as refined, but if I wanted refined I would buy a bmw or mercedes.

It was fun to launch and hit it through 4th.
