so my p5 is now knockin at idle WOOT! and i just had the oil changed and it was already about 1/4 inch below the full mark, so i know its goin through oil like nobodys business. my engine only has a lil over 80 thousand miles on it, and ive got a spun bearing and now a minor rod knock......and the worst part is that i dont have any money to have it fixed or replaced...so now im just hopin that if i keep it full of oil the engine will hold out till the first of the year when hopefully it can be replaced. (but im doubting it)

im just wondering what are the chances that the piston will end up firing through the block? how strong are the internals of our engines?
(pissed)

On any engine with a bad rod bearing, the chances of it's long term survival are nearly zero. If you keep driving it, plan on having the bearing eventually fuse itself to the crank and rod due to exessive heat and therefore distorting/breaking the connecting rod (worst case).

So the oil was only 1/4" low on the stick. Lots of agressive driving?

yea about that. and no there hasnt been any aggressive driving, i think its just burning a lot of oil now cuz of the bearing

junkyard engine? you can probably get one for 500 or under...
im lookin at getting one from protege garage with 30000 miles or less. its only $1200. but yea i might check a junkyard too

speaking of engines. ive seen 3 different engines, the FS-DE, FS-ZE, and the FP-DE
whats the difference between the 3, which one offers the most power, etc etc

Switch to heavier wt oil asap and drive it like a grandma!
haha already did that....im puttin 20-50 in the oil was just changed and they put 10-30 in, but im checkin my oil every week and addin my 20-50 as needed

www.car-part.com. I got a 40k-mile FSDE for a friend for $350-ish. Have a look around and check your oil regularly - 'tis part of car ownership.

ok ill check that out.
i looked up the 3 different engines, and im found the fs-ze jdm engine on the corksport site.
im lookin to get that, seein as its got 170hp. but i need the j-spec ecu, hopefully captian krm p5 can find one for me. or ill just have to look around.

the fsze swap isn't worth the money... you'll find out when you search about it.

You'll need the wiring harness, too, if you hope to wire the Japanese ECU to the Japanese Engine. Not hardly a simple plug-n-play setup.

Well, thats not the first I've heard about the P5 getting rod knock at as low as 80000 miles. You should also have have a tow number ready to call.

It'd certainly cost less to buy a complete engine rather than have the current engine rebuilt. Plus you should change the clutch while you're at it.

the fs-ze swap seems to be worth it, except for the fact of the harness and ecu.
idk we'll see, if i dont get that im just gonna get one from ken

and my cars an auto (for now), so no worry on the clutch heh. (my tranny is slippin 2nd tho)

LOL, spun bearing=rod knock....

My first bearing went ~30K. Car is at 120K (90K on the motor) and it's doing it again...I hate this damn car. Friggin junk ass mazda. I refuse to ever buy another one. EVER.

Internals are weak, the piston won't go through the top. The rod will however, go right out of the block.

Check your oil regularly and kwitcherbitchin.

Werd.
If you check/change your oil regularly, the fs-de can take the abuse to an extent.
